My mother is 81 and in poor health. She has been told that she needs a foot amputated. She is frightened and needs to speak to someone who would understand her predicament. Where can I get her this help? All suggestions gratefully received.

Oh goodness, I am so so sorry to hear this, really my heart goes out to you.

All I can think of is that you can contact the Amputee Limbless Axxoxiation maybe they can help or guide you in the right direction

Limbless Association 31 The Mall Ealing London W5 2PX Tel: 020 8579 1758

Also check out the amputee forum, set up by Heather Mills McCartney, post a message there and see if anyone can come up with a good suggestion. I know Heather is not so popular at the moment with some people, but the forum that she has set up is really good.

When is your Mum having this operation? You say that she is in poor health, is she diabetic? Is there really no other option? Discuss with medics her pre-op care, maybe it is possible to get her in better shape before, I dont know what her other illness/symptoms are so cannot even think of any suggestions there.

All the best to you and your Mum, tell her everyone in here is thinking of you both.

Love

Karen
