Amusing Diabetes Stories?

I'm not actually diabetic, my mum is (T2), and before she was on insulin and BP tabs, she was on quite a lot of tablets a day, and every week I would be asked to put her tablets in her weekly box (the type that has compartments for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc.) which I admit I quite enjoyed doing.

One day, we were at a petrol station on the way somewhere while we were on holiday. My mum was sorting out her tablets and taking a large, round, sugar-coated, white diabetes tablet. She handed it to me to hold while she sorted something else out, and as I had had a bit of a headache earlier, I thought it was for me. My mum turned back to me and asked me where the tablet was and I very innocently said, "I ate it".

Let's just say, the next 10-15 minutes were taken up with mum frantically calling the emergency doctor's number, my sister trying to make me cough it back up again or flush it out, and my dad grabbing some food so I didn't go hypoglycaemic (I think it was a pre-meal tablet of sorts, used in the same context as insulin). People stared with concerned and shocked faces at the child being whacked on the back and forced to drink loads of water and eat crisps while the mother shouted down a phone while holding about 6 packets of tablets…

I really don't know what people must have thought of us, but it can't have been great!

Does anyone else have any funny diabetes-related stories of their own?
