Hi all,

About 6 weeks ago I wrote explaining I fell off the wagon etc etc and the doc was going to put me on metaformin 4 a day and I was really down and concerned .The update to this has been I have visited a different doc for a second opinion before I took tablets .The outcome was 2 a day and I must say to anyone worried about taking them ,apart from a little wind I feel great and more positive about myself. After a few people repremanded me on this forum for a few things I did in regards of diet etc the reality hit home and subsequently I have lost 6 kg in 5.5 weeks and all my reading have come down dramatically to a great level and the doc is over the moon and does not want to see me for a couple of month.I have achieved this small weight loss but reducing my carbs as described on this site to about 100g and need to go lower but monitoring at the moment.

I really just wanted to say if any new people have come across this site I would advise to save in your favs for them moments of confusion or denial or if they just want to let thing off there chest as I have come to find this as good if not better at times for advice than my own docs.

Thanks again everyone .

Paul :D

Hello Paul,

Glad to hear you're doing well on Metformin. I've been taking it since 2001 and like you other than some flatulence (sounds like an orchestra at times) I've not experienced any side effects. Well, that's not exactly true. One of the common ones is, wait for it (excuss the pun), weight loss. Over the years I've lost 5 and a half stone but now sadly that's going on again because of meds I need to take for another condition. It's an uphill struggle losing weight, but keep on trying. This website has an entry for the "Diet Plate" which helps with portion control. I'm thinking of trying it myself, but the write ups are really positive. Good luck, Thea. :D
