My ode to diabetes:-
Tis was the summer of 89
I really wasn't feeling very fine
Infections going on down below
What is was, I didn't know
Ye gods, I'm tired
so knackerd and down
7st 5 when I weighed myself in town
It must be worry and stress
because I am now on my own
Who would of thought
I would feel so alone
with incredible thirst and weight loss
and now just over 7 stone
I travelled up north, a visit I needed
still feeling rough and warnings not heeded
but I'm alright, its just one of those things
something was happening, what does it mean?
An ambulance was called, nice chaps up north
"you must go forth to hospital" the doctor said
Insulin is needed and they will have you sorted
all tucked up in a cosy NHS bed
Oh woe is me, I have got type 1 dia - be-tes
over 200 hundred miles away from home
" no not me, I can't have diabetes"
there are too many flipping nurses in the family tree
Your pancreas has died  and has journeyd up
the great staircase in the sky
So now you must inject, inject, inject, inject
and woe betide if ever ever forget
Anxious, shaking and trembling
I stuck it in my leg
Right that's done
off you go back to bed
Its 23 years later and rather surprisingly
it doesn't appear to have gone away
Oh titter not, ye of little faith
there will be a cure...........one day
All the best to you all with diabetes RRB
