Hi Everyone

I'm yet another who was blissfully unaware of this wonderful website until a few weeks ago !

Am a 46 year old male, diagnosed with type 2 diabetes just before Christmas 2009. I had no symptoms however elevated glucose levels were spotted in a routine blood test and followed up on.

At present am taking an ACE inhibitor, beta blocker, statin and aspirin only. Am improving my diet and will start gentle exercise once the weather improves. Had my second session with a diabetic nurse specialist this morning and was given a blood monitoring meter. My pre breakfast reading was 8.8, the nurse said this was good for a newly diagnosed person - would you agree ?

Am feeling alternatively relaxed and then anxious about all this and know I have an awful lot to learn, although I am looking forward to getting to know you all in the future.

Well done for getting a meter - I'm type two diet only with Simvastatins and I was told not to bother testing so got my own freebie off this site.

Think I'll try again to get a prestription for testing strips.

Re your readings, I was told on this forum that it should be the attached.

Fasting (waking) ...............between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals...............no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

Hi Frenchman,

simply put, fasting recommendation is 4-7, so if you have already achieved 8's you're doing great!!.
Now check on your HBA1C and try to get that below 6 as your mid term goal....

Keep it up!!!.

Regards Steve. (Fasting 13 on diagnosis, HBA1C 10.3, now 5.6)
