Hi my son was diagnosed with type one diabities 3months ago he is 14 and very annoyed just now he is getting angry and upset at school. He attends a special needs school and his teachers are concerned about him will this pass?

I would mention his behaviour to his diabetes team and try and get an appointment, if you do take along all his bg diary and see what they say, it could be low bg levels or just the emotional impact of being diagnosed with diabetes, hopefully they'll be able to help you both.

more than likely, he hasn't the maturity to rationalise his feelings, he may need counselling to get a handle on his feelings instead of acting them out in anger,
he will take his lead from you, the better you handle it and your attitude to his diabetes. The better he will handle it, agree with him when he tells you it sucks, because it does suck. there are no wrong feelings

Poor lad. Does he read the threads on here? May help him to realise that he is not alone. I don't know if there are other youngsters on this forum?
Also he needs to realise that the biochemical imbalance he is suffering from doesn't just affect his insulin/bg levels. The effects can be far reaching on many of his other systems as well. Insulin has more than an effect on blood sugar. It plays a part in dopamine/leptin response and even serotonin levels which affect behaviour and feelings.
I get this from Fat Chance - the bitter truth about sugar. Its quite complex though, but well worth a read.
However, he needs to know that it's not his fault!

good idea GF, there is a kids page here and there are more on facebook etc, they have kids camp where they meet other kids..they may have day activities too

Welcome @Gillespielynne . It must be tough to cope with diabetes and adolescence on top of special needs. May I ask how much your son can understand? It could be he's angry because he doesn't understand why the people he loves and trusts are suddenly sticking needles into him and denying him his favourite foods. I know there's quite a lot of information about specific conditions (eg autism, Down's) and diabetes, and it's a topic that comes up often in parent support groups.

Hi my son has a very good understanding about it. He has been coping extremely well till the last couple of weeks he gets very angry an frustrated and tells me he hates this stupid diabetes. He gets upset with me and tells me he hates me. Had a good chat with him about it and he was in a better frame of mind when he left for school. His brother and sisters are helping him overcome this to by chatting to him about his feelings ect. We will get there I'm sure.
