Animas vibe canular change

I know this sounds stupid, but it's my first day on the vibe with saline, when I change the canular every 3 days, does the cartridge also required to be changed, so if there is any insulin left, is this just disregarded and a new cartridge used with more insulin - thanks for any responses

No you don't need to change it each time you change your cannula. :)
6 days is meant to be the max for insulin in the cartridge.
My attitude is that it's a dreadful waste of money dumping insulin and cartridges unnecessarily.
 
If the insulin cartridge is less than say a quarter full I would dump it. But as CarbsRok says it's supposed to be cannula every 3 days, cartridge every 6.
 
Ok thanks, so what do you do just stick the new cannula into the existing cartridge?, do you have to go through the rewind, load cart and prime again ?

You have to do Prime and Fill Cannula again, but you can skip the Rewind and Load Cart.
you want to be quick switching the new luer connector onto the reservoir, as you probably need to pull the reservoir out slightly, and if attempts to do a basal step while you have the reservoir out, the pump will alarm.
So, no pressure. :-)

As spiker says you need to start from scratch fill the cartridge, remove the old one put the new tubing on the cartridge whilst the pump is rewinding. Pop the cartridge into the pump and tighten the cover to hold it in place. . Then continue the prime process. All this is on page 16 of your manual :)
 
So I had my first session with the animas reps yesterday.
Tried both the inset 30 and inset ii. The 30 hurt when putting it on but I took it off straight away during the session, the angled set I left in on my way home but it was still uncomfortable when I got home. We had been told that sets should settle within 15 mins and if not to replace so I removed it. On removal there was a stream of blood from the site which shocked me as you can imagine. Luckily I was not connected to the pump with insulin so no control issues.
Basically- how often does this happen and what are your experiences of different sets? Baring in mind that I have not got a pick on me!

The Inset 30 will hurt a tiny bit when being pulled out because of the adhesive enabling it to stick well and the way the 30 degree angle cannula is held in place. I tend to spray an adhesive remover (LiftPlus) on these sets or to wipe some babyoil on the adhesive. This then makes pulling back the edges of the adhesive towards the cannula a bit easier so not to bleed from the hole. Also holding a piece of tissue over the hole as the cannula slides out helps. Personally, I like the Inset 30 for certain areas on body but use the Inset II for others
 
I've only used Inset 30s a few times but I did notice more blood than I get with the (straight in) Inset IIs. It's a longer needle on the Inset 30. But as @iHs says you can use technique.
