Hi I'm pre-diabetic I am am diet contolled I have recently been given antibiotics (metronidazole) by my dentist for a gum infection, since starting the course my blood sugar readings have been high and very up and down...could this be the antibiotics?thanks Paul.

Morning. My understanding is it is the infection causing the high sugars not the antibiotics themselves. So once the infection has cleared, your sugars should settle.

I'm currently on them for the same thing! Not fun.

Kate.

Thanks Kate ive read something similar but apparently ive had the infection for a while.. whilst my bloods sugars have only been high and inconsistent since I started the meds...ive now found info which says the meds can increase blood sugars/inconsistent....so confusing...thanks again Paul.
