Have just returned from my annual check and am depressed :( ! Blood pressure up and so is my abA1c at 8!! last year it was 7.4 and my DN didn't make too much fuss nor my Dr. New nurse this year who picked up on everything so not only do I have to have my blood pressure checked in 3 months and my abA1c in 6 months, but somehow also got myself signed up for a long overdue smear!! :? Dr also upped my metformin and one of my BP tablets so I will rattle even more now!!! Oh, I might also have a urinary infection according to the test results so have to have that checked! I hate Doctors!!Ok, moan over. Thanks for listening. Will now have a strong coffee and drown my sorrows!

So sorry to hear your MoT did not go so well. Individually they are not a disaster but I can sympathise with your feelings for the combo and their throwing more pills at you... Suppose they know what they are doing but it might have been constructive to look around at a non-pill option but such is the NHS.
I hope the coffee was decaff... ducks for cover! 8)

Thing that bugs me is that nothing has changed with regards to life, diet etc so now I think maybe I should start cutting things out of my diet but where do you start? Just feeling sorrry for myself I guess! Want someone to tell me what to eat and when, to make it all better!!!

Sorry to hear about the readings; I sympathise! First do you have a meter and test your BS after meals? Do get hold of one if you can as it will help to find out what foods affect you most. Carbs are the worst offender but they vary greatly so measuring 2 hours after the main meal can help check what affects you; go for low GI carbs and eat little and often. Exercise will help. If none of this helps much over time you may have to have additional medication; mine has been gradually increased over 7 years. Fortunately I suffer no side effects so you may also be lucky if you end up needing more.

Thanks Diabell, I do have a meter but will have to start testing more often and moniter what I eat more closely. Have got away with no increase in meds for 6 years so should count my blessings. Do exercise as I walk everywhere cos I dont drive and do pilates regularly. Have gone up from 50g metformin twice daily to 100g so will be interesting to see if it helps.

The snag is that you can faff about with all manner of dieting but it is unlikely to overnight impact your BP imho. Salt is the obvious one but then the pills are diuretics and should take care of that... maybe cut out the crisps is an obvious egg sucking suggestion...

Exercise should help but getting the BP down is much harder imho than your BS. I would like to think that they go hand in hand but I would doubt it. Some benefit across the board from better diet and exercise but even then they don't suit everyone.

Blood sugar monitoring is a boon and you can see a direct cause and effect, there is no equivalent with BP. I find this intensely frustrating and no doubt many others do.
The doc I saw yesterday suggested aspirin a day but I have not trid that. Said it thins the blood and lowers BP... hmm maybe.

All the best... you are not alone! 8)
