Annual review blood test - dr requested thyroid?!

Bit of a strange question but is thyroid function generally one of the boxes ticked on blood forms? I requested mine today so that I can get my blood tests done ahead of my actual review (being organised for the 1st time this year!) the receptionist and her colleague sorted out the form for me and the thyroid function box was ticked, however the cholesterol box wasn't! I think they've got them found the wrong way but wanted to ask if it was a regular test before I pop off together the blood tests done!

Yes, thyroid is generally tested because there is a link between diabetes and thyroid problems which make it a little bit more likely that we could have thyroid issues.
I would have thought the cholesterol one should be ticked too though!

thyroid disease is present in about 30% of T1s, it is lower in T2 but still higher than in the general population so it's a good thing to get checked.

My doc checked mine this year and found that I had autoimmune hypothyroidism which explained a few things than were going on lack of motivation and depression coupled with a rise in weight and cholesterol levels. Fortunately the pills seem to be working.

However I also agree that if you haven't been checked in a least the last year you should be having a cholesterol test.

Hi there
Why not just check the box yourself ? I have to do this a few times. Much easier than going back to the surgery et al.

Because forging documents might annoy the doctor? You know, on the off-chance that he remembers what tests he requested?
