Hi, I've just had the results from my annual review, HBa1c34, Cholesterol HDL4.5, LDL 3.3 Triglycerides 2.7. GP has been trying to get me to take statins for a few years but I have always refused. I follow a HFLC diet with only around 40g of carbs per day. Does anyone have any ideas on how to lower my Triglyceride levels whilst remaining on a HFLC diet.
 
Fasted pre blood draw? 12-14 hours?
 

Have you mis-typed something? Cholesterol HDL 4.5. I don't understand this. Is your cholesterol 4.5? What is your HDL?
 
Hi, It was almost exactly a 12hr fast. My blood pressure was 110 over 80 which I'm told is normal. I might be wrong but if my arteries were clogged with cholesterol shouldn't I have high blood pressure.

That is the figure I was given over the phone when I rang the health centre, I was told total HDL 4.5.
 
My serum cholesterol readings in Feb 2018 were :

0.71 and 2.78 mmol/l for HDL/LDL respectively.

I seem to recall being told to eat more oily fish.

Sometimes the receptionists can misread what’s there. Especially if under duress.
 
That 4.5 sounds a little high to me. But standards are just that, an expectation, and there can be a number of factors involved in numbers going up or down.

I know people will disagree with me about that and it’s fine but we can get very hung up on the numbers at times. Can you request another test at all ?
 
Hi. Is there any reason why you haven't registered with your surgery's online service so you can login and see your results rather then relying on verbal info from a busy receptionist?

Indeed, I have done just that recently. I now have most of my data accessible online.

Unfortunately for some of us it’s not an option. We can only order meds and make appointments (although even this is hit and miss at the moment) on line.

I found the same and had to request thee extra data from the surgery using a SARF form. I got the test data in just a few days.

Do you use ”Patient Access” ?

I think the receptionist was wrong. Either that or your HDL is very high. I would ring the receptionist and ask for a print out so you can see for yourself.
