Hi I'm Maria
Before I begin, please be patient as I'm not very good at explaining things...I was diagnosed with type 2 5 years ago which was no surprise as my Dad, Grandma and great Grandfather(plus a few aunts & uncles on my Dads side) had diabetes, my gr Grandad refused any treatment and eventually died from diabetic complications.
Anyway i was originally put on metformin which didn't seem to suit as i would often feel weak, shaky and not able to concentrate which would come on very quickly, also it upset my stomach (even the slow release). I eventually changed to insulin 2 years ago - levemir and novorapid which no denying certainly does the job but my stomach ended up bruised, painful and lumpy and as i have arthritis in my hips they are too painful to inject into. In september i changed (again) to Gliclazide and 2 weeks ago started Sitagliptin but my bs are 12-16 fasting and 25+ 2 hours after meals! My biggest downfall is that i eat too much including carbs!
I am due to see my diabetic nurse next week to monitor my progress and i must say my gp and diabetic nurse are excellent! i still have 6 monthly reviews and can make appointments or phone calls if i'm struggling.
Anyway Hello everyone... Maria
ps don't be surprised if i don't reply quickly as my hubby hogs the computer!!
