Hi everyone, my name's Sheila I'm 42 in a couple of weeks and was diagnosed with type 2 5 years ago when I was in hospital with a serious chest infection. Up until now, I've tended to ignore my diabetes partly because I have other major health problems and partly because I didn't want to acknowledge it. A couple of days ago, I had my review at the hospital and was given a bit of a wake-up call. My HbA1C has been creeping up over the past year (from 6.2 to 7.6), while my cholesterol had gone down, my triglycerides weren't that good so I'm on an extra med for that and my BP was too high so I'm now on a drug for that. Add to that the fact that I've got a cataract developing in my left eye and it's not that good.
Over the last month or so I have been making more of an effort and have taken up archery as it's the type of exercise that appeals to me (my body's not exactly designed for exercise!). I've also agreed to start seeing my dietician again as I feel more motivated to doing something about my weight (it's been a problem all my life). On a positive note, I had my second retinal screening in April and there's no sign of retinopathy so it's not all bad news!
I'm looking forward to getting to know people on here and sharing ideas and laughs.
