We have had pretty bad snowfalls here and I have just witnessed an accident in the lane, necessitating ambulance and police.

Please, please, please if you decide to venture out in your car then clear the car roof of snow as well. A driver lost control because although he had cleared his car windows he did nothing to the roof. The snow from the roof fell down onto his windscreen and he was unable to see. He hit a tree and luckily, although the front of the car is mangled, he doesn't seem to be too badly off except for a possible broken arm and shock.

Good advise Catherine, i would also urge drivers to consider pedestrians also, i have been pelted with snow from car roofs and bonnets, as they have taken sharp corners, and witnessed children covered in grey slush thrown up from the roads by lorries, neither very pleasent to experience.

My road is still deep snow, but I can get out on foot. My hiking boots give good traction. However, I have tried to get some crampons for ordinary boots and failed. Anyone seen them on sale anywhere?

That looks a great idea, snow chains for footwear. I wonder what they are like in slush or when there is no snow. I guess the will be easy to take off. For cars I have heard snow socks (Auto socks) are very good. I could go on about winter tyres, but this is not a car forum and would be going a little off-topic.

I have been wearing my steel toe-capped safety boots and thick socks for walking and had no problems grip, they are much better than summer trainers, and much more waterproof.

Usually snow flys off the back of the car and causes problems for drivers following. :( I saw a chap the other day driving and the only visibility he had was through a small hole he had scraped on the windscreen.

Maybe the chap who hit the tree was driving too fast for the conditions, because even if snow slipped onto his windscreen he should have been able to stop, and if he was going to bump a tree it should have been a light bump, if his car was mangled and he broke his arm he must have been doing a good speed.

Also I would advise if you drive electric cars don't take them on the road and get stuck, let us 4 x 4 drivers cruise on past with a smug smile.  (JOKE :!: )

Funny how 4 x 4 drivers are not getting slated at the moment.
