Another stupid question .

I was looking at blood glucose meters and have come across one that says it is more accurate because it uses "HCT"

Has anyone any views. I use a codefree meter which I am happy with. I am aware its the trends that are important.

HCT means it measures haematocrit (an element in red blood cells) It is known that low or raised haemotocrit levels affect the HbA1c results. If you need your haemotocrit levels they will be shown on your full blood count data.

Because of this, many meters are tested for haematocrit correction. I know my accuchek mobile is. This is what it says about the AC Mobile:

The influence of hematocrit level on the results was investigated with native capillary blood samples of 254 patients. Hematocrit levels were available in the range from 24% to 53%. The result (deviation Accu-Chek Mobile system to the laboratory method Hexokinase, IFCC plasma) is shown in Figure 12. In an additional laboratory experiment the hematocrit of venous blood samples was manipulated artificially to cover the range from 0% (plasma) to 65%.Both experiments prove that clinically correct results are produced in a hematocrit range from 25 % to 55 %

It may be more accurate, but is more likely just clever marketing.
