Just interested how many people with diabetes take antidepressants / anxiety meds. My doctor recently commented more diabetics are on them then we probably realise.

I have been on and off antidepressants for well over ten years. Not due to diabetes though. I have suffered with Generalised Anxiety Disorder as long as I can remember but it was diagnosed back in 2005/6..

I don't know how to respond to poll. I have had episodes of depression for over 50 years, and taken ads during them. I now take them continuously. I was taking ads before I was diagnosed as T2, so not due to the diabetes.

I voted yes, but there is never a one only cause i think.
I have a strong family history of depression, I worked in a high risk profession for depression.
And things like hypos, strict and somewhat demeaning experiences in my teens as a diabetic and with past health professionals I am sure did not help.
The important things were:
not be too proud or stubborn
about depression.
To realise that medication is helpful but not a complete panacea.
And that being able to talk things through from time to time with one or more fellow human beings, whether a professional, or in another occupation. way of life or experience is the most valuable thing of all.

I have been on antidepressants for a few years now I was put on them due to anorexia and depression but I have had anxiety as long as I can remember I think my anxiety is linked to me having mild autism

Great reply . I've always been anxious and a strong family history of it also. I think diabetes has made it worse though. My psychiatrist tells me he has a lot of diabetic patients which made me wonder how strong the link was.

Yes. It's complex. Anxiety and depression can hang around for years for various reasons and diabetes just adds to the stress.

Yes. Good point. If taking before diagnosis there wouldn't really be a link in that case.

Yes I have generalised anxiety disorder also. I think diabetes makes it worse though.
