Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some help and advice please.
I have a friend who's 9 yr old son has diabetes and she is having probs with him and a friend of mine her Uncle is having major problems as he was diagnosed in Decemebr with diabetes and he already had foot ulcers... I really want to help people who are having problems with diabetes... I feel particularlly strong about this. I do know there is a chance I will get diabetes as it runs in my Dad's side of the family so I think it will also benefit me too, I have been around diabetes my whole 35 yrs... But with having no gcse's or a'levels I feel completely lost as to where to start or how I can help ...... Can anyone think of any way I can help people or courses I can go on.... I really want to help my friends and other people with this. I hope someone can help. Thanks xxs

It depends really on what you want to do. Diabetes.org.uk offer a few training courses and of course they an JDRF always welcome volunteers.
Becoming a specialist nurse requires qualifications (to Master level). If this is the kind of thing you'd want to do then you will need to obtain the qualification, most colleges offer night and part time courses in GCSE / A Levels.
But otherwise volunteering somewhere is a good start. You can also do a search on google and find out if there are any diabetes support groups in your area.

Hi,Lyneshee :)

There are local groups that may help, not to sure where they are. This may help = [email protected] I .( This is not connected to Diabetes .co.uk)

I think what you would like to do is a very good idea and I wish you every success.( Simple Grades can be obtained through courses connected to training in what you would like to archive).

You could try your local clinics for advice etc; maybe some homes with elderly that are diabetes.

The more I read your thread I can believe a lot of people may require that little help that you have suggested.
Don't worry to much about Grades at this early stage, just do what you have to do.

Good luck

Roy, :)
