Any Benefits ? Help I'm type one

If you're in the UK, you won't get benefits for 'just' having Type 1. People with diabetic complications can get benefits but that's because of the complications not the Type 1.

The options open to you are the normal options like Housing Benefit, which you might be entitled to, depending on your income and circumstances. Your local council can tell you more.

No benifits for being type1. Only if there are compilations from it.
If you go down the route of private rent, which is high, would mean having to put down a high deposit and a months rent in advance. Only very occasionally you might get help with some housing benefit, but most private landlords won,t except housing benifits.
Other option is, to go onto the council house list. Each council is different as into how long you wait for a place and most councils now put you into a band ie a to H where a is usually for homeless people, but again that varies with each council. To give you an example, where I live, I was on the council list in band B, and I waited almost 11 years for a place.
The other option is, are there any family that can help out money wise to start you off to find a private let place

It sounds like you're working as you mention cutting your hours. Is your partner also working?

Registering with local letting agents can help you get notice of suitable places. If you haven't got enough for the deposit, maybe it will be a case of you and your partner saving up for a little longer. Some councils do have schemes to help with deposits but these are limited.

I will (so will lot of other landlords) provided the tenant can get a family member with a good credit rating who owns their own home to be a guarantor. To really impress a landlord, get a http://www.landlordreferencing.co.uk/my-tenant-reference/ as
it proves to the landlord they can get insurance to cover them if you don't pay the rent.

But housing benefit rates are now too low to pay the rent in lots of areas, even if you don't get hit with the benefit cap. In Stockport for example housing benefit will now only cover the rent on a few roads, but in Denton 5 miles away there are many more properties that are affordable for someone on benefits. However if you can find even an additional £50 per month there are lots more properties you can consider. (But don't expect to get a new kitchen and bathroom, most landlords will let you paint if you agree the color with them first.)

The local Citizens Advice if you have one should be also be to tell you what benefits you can get, if not find your local food bank and ask them, as they will be able to point you to a benefit adviser. There are now lots of benefits for people in work and even working 16 hours per week can count as being in work.

My best tenant is a family on benefits, as they have been with me for many years, (it costs me a lot every time a tenant decides to leave). (They even had a dog when I took them, I happy with dogs as it makes it harder for tenants to move.)

Don't you guys have food stamps? I think 25% of Americans get them.

Do you want to give us some idea of the issues you're facing that mean you can't work? I've had type 1 for 34 years and for most of that time (bar maternity leaves) have been in full time work. There are plenty of others on here who work as well.

Hey ANDuncan. I dont think you can get any benefits for just being type 1. Its all to do with the complications and thats not something you want to have!
Can I ask if you are receiving support from your diabetic team? If you are so uncontrolled that its affecting your day to day life then you need help to bring it under control.
