So Ian it looks like the leaflet is nothing to do with DUK but produced by gps - oh dear!
 
What's your point ,Ally? Any leaflet given to patients no matter from what source should have the correct info on it!
 
sue im not making a point i dont know why everyone has been on my case about it any way its nothing to do with dietitians from what i can see or duk

Some of the websites i have seen posted on here are far worse than that leaflet - problem is that when you work with people you ned a range of leaflets - not everyone has the knowledge you do.
 
And that is precisely the point,the info for the ordinary patient should be clear ,simple and accurate.
 
sue u dont get it - it was very basic and that might be right for some - im not sure what the objective of the leaflet is and quite frankly havent time to investigate .

as a nurse you should know we have to have different resourses for different groups!
 
Hi Ally.

DUK and other organisations are still putting out the same flawed message to people who know no better, and the Patients are just following advice blindly.

When are they and Dietic(t)ians going to accept that there is another way, many of them in fact.

Not just diabetes either. Ancel Keys will go down in history as singlehandedly INCREASING levels of Type 2 and other cardiovascular diseases, and obesity, to American levels throughout the rest of the world. We'll probably all be dead before enough people notice though.
 
A Petition to the PM's office may be a good starting point.

Draft wording:

Patients with type 2 diabetes are concerned by the dietary advice being given them, & have found from experience that NHS advice to "eat plenty of starchy foods, fruits & vegetables" aggravates their problems. As this is declared to be "a healthy diet as recommended for everyone" we believe this advice contributes to the rise in obesity & incidence of diabetes as starchy foods increase the load on the pancreas & accelerate its failure.

We request the Health Minister to conduct a study of dietary recommendations for diabetics, with a view to making the recommendation we have found by experience: "Patients with diabetes should reduce their consumption of all forms of carbohydrate, and increase their consumption of vegetables & protein foods."

Feel free to revise that, so we can submit an agreed wording.
