Hi Folks,
Your such a knowledgable bunch i thought i'd be quicker asking you for some imformation.
Most of you know my son Andrew by now, he's 10yrs old, T1 with coeliac disease. Anyhow to cut a long story short he's had tummy and groin pain since Thurs, slight temperature around 37.8, 2+ keytones but bs has not been too high, averaging about 8-10. Peeing alot, especially during night and i'm giving him plenty of fluids and ibrufen. Took him to Drs, urine test only showed up a little glucose, but no infection, they sent away a proper sample today to the lab to see if something will show up with intensive testing. What could be the cause, anything diabetic related, Dr thought it was a kidney infection, but like i said test strip came up negative, i'm puzzled as it's really annoying him, it's a nagging pain in tummy, below ribs and lower back, and groin.
Thanks in advance for any info,
Suzi x

I would justt make sure they check for all non-diabetic possibilities. It's too easy to assume that everything is diabetes related and it mightwell not be. Kidney infection should show up quickly on urine test.

Thanks Hana,
It's so easy to get obsessed with the diabetes that its only natural to think it could be connected. Anyhow the Dr did say if the pain was to get sharp and consistant to ring Dr on call, but didn't suggest anything else it could be. So i feel as if i'm stumbling in the dark, urine test should be back 2moro evening, so hopefully i'll know something by then, if not back to the Drs again.
Many thanks as always Hana, and by the way my step daughter gave birth on 18/2, 2wks early to a little baby girl Arianna, 5lb 7oz, both doing well and i'm chuffed to bits.

I had kidney stones once with similar symptoms. This wouldn't necessarily mean there was an infection so wouldn't show on a test strip. I was under 20 when I had them but I'd imagine they could easily form in a person with diabetes. I gather you've already ruled out him eating foods with gluten hidden away in them. Hope he is well soon.

Thanks Jen,
Hope Khaleb is well and your getting some nights sleep. Hadn't thought of kidney stones, though hoping its not them. I have been so careful with his gf diet, so i can definately rule that out. Hopefully tests results this afternoon will give me some idea as to whats going on.
Though try as i might i couldn't convince the receptionist to give me an appointment for Wed morning to discuss results with Dr, oh no, our surgery has a system where you phone on day you want an appointment @ 8.20am and wait in a phone queue, i waited 24 minutes last week only to be told no appointments left! I won't be told no this week, or heads will roll lol.
Many thanks Jen, take care, hugs for Khaleb,
Suzi x
