Any ideas ?

I managed to get my Hba down to 43 and the GP agreed to halve my metformin ,but then I got a cold and cough which seems reluctant to go away .I know that any sort of illness can upset your BG levels but I am getting readings of 12 and 13 when I would normally have 6or 7 .The GP wants me to have another Hba in May which would be 3 months after my last one Does anyone know whether a cold would keep my BGS up so high for so long ?I am sure that halving the metformin from 2X1000 to.1X1000 would make so much difference I know that the GP will want to up the metformin My diabetes review is due in June so I may hang on for the Hba until then and then if it is high perhaps ask for another 3 months before upping the met ,but obviously I am not happy with Bgs so high

Illness will put your BS up unfortunately. I stopped taking metformin altogether as I was so ill on it and found that it didn't make any difference to my blood sugars or help me lose weight/not put it on. Perhaps you should have the test in may then deal with the review and see what the results were and go from there. Good luck.
 
One of the reasons that I wanted to lower the metformin was that I need to put weight on

Dropping your Metformin will not have made that much of a difference, if any at all. Your cold virus may be lingering on without you knowing and affecting your glucose levels still. I wouldn't worry. See how it goes.
 
Thanks @ bluetit I am just a little worried about the highs lasting such a long time especially how it will effect me Hba

Is there any chance your cold might have left you with a chest or sinus infection?

If you are concerned about your HbA1c being affected, then postpone it a while if you can. None of us can anticipate how it will be affected as that will depend on your own red blood cells and how they glycate and how long they live.
 
@carty - How long is "so long"? If things really are lingering on, a chat with your Doc could be worthwhile, to see if he might be able to help get to the bottom of things.
 
Thanks every one I am going home tomorrow so I will see how the Bgs go through the next week To be honest my GP is not very clued up on diabetes ,my management has been by reading this forum and others .It took 3 months to get a clinic appointment at the surgery and that was after I had asked if I should be having one !I had already found this forum and started to low carb higher fat my Hba was 19 at this point it is now 43 (in new money) Ok it has taken 7years but I am a skinny type 2 so I had no weight to lose That is why I am so gutted that my Hba may be higher at my. DB review and I don't want the GP to think that it is because I have halved my metformin At one of my telephone confrontation sorry consultations he told me that it wasn't the food that I eat that lowered my BGS but the pills he prescribed !I asked how it would be if I ate scotch pies and deep fried mars bars He said " I know that you wouldn't do that dear "GRR!!!
