Type of diabetes
Type 2
hi all, 1st post.

ive recently been diagnosed type 2 and on a learning curve. no medication yet or education so any help appreciated.

after xmas i would like to lose some weight, tried everything and want to try juicing and replace some breakfast and lunches with juicing, i fell into the fruit sugar trap and have been juicing fruits only then found out not to.

im not a veg lover so want to mix veg juice and all i can find when i search is "buy this book"

can anyone tell me what veg is good for losing weight while being type2 and suggest recipes?

im looking to bit of a detox and replace some meals initially and hope to find a steady juice alternative as i dont like eating a lot of veg

thanks

I've done the juice diet before. Hard but it worked for me! I use the Jason Vale juice master book. It's got lots of fruit recipes but lots of veg-based ones too. Toucan also opt for the low carb fruits - this will help stabilise your sugars.

Good luck! :)

thanks Elc1112 but im reluctant to buy a book when i cant find any recipes online to start out with plus the contradictions of whats good and not so good for diabetes.

ive been juicing fruits for a week and love it, went veg shopping last night armed with this list:

broccoli
ginger
lemons
celery
spinach
green apples
cauliflower
carrots
tomatoes
garlic
pineapple
oranges

tried this one this morning called diabetics treat:

4 carrots
2 green apples
1 stalk celery
Handful of spinach
1 peeled lemon
1" Ginger

and its DISGUSTING lol, the lemon and ginger i think is waaaaay too much, really hot!

any ideas for what actually may taste nice, i dont expect ot to taste like fruit juice but that last one put me off lol

thanks

ok so i cant find any juicers or recipes with the stuff i know i like.

ill make this thread a personal diary as i have to experiment myself and if anyone can throw in advice all the better. ill try keep it short and update regularly.

ill have juice drink for breakfast and veg or soup made from the veg pulp for lunch, ill try for a week but im pretty hungry between meals right now.

1.
4 carrots
1 apple
1 celery stick
¼ a cucumber
Result: ok not great! Cucumber and celery prob more the celery makes it greeny taste.

2.
Broccoli
Tomatoes
Spinach
Garlic
Result: ok but could get used to it. might forget the garlic next time.

making soup with no.2 above. pulp added 1 stock in 700ml water salt and pepper, boil then simmer for probably 2 hrs. the idea is to have soup the next day, probably 2 good portions from the 1 juice pulp.

edit: prob need more water added salt and pepper, tasted ok half way through lol

i have no idea what im doing, never made soup before but im determined to change my diet and try save a bit cos this veg was really expensive and the wife can keep making the dinners for now as im new to all this.

may need moved to another part of the forum mods?

Hi, Glezga, :)

Last August, between us we purchased one of those vitamix machines, got to admit very expensive nevertheless great for making those smothy drinks, you just don't know how good they are for adding raw veg etc; which has got to be good for you.

Your diet treat recipes would be great in these machines.

These machines also grind seeds (linseed etc;)

Must say I thought what a load of rubbish, just another gadget that my sons have conned me to help buy, however I was wrong. Also there is little mess to clean up and you just add water to get the machine to clean itself, ( so no complains from the dear wife).

I am on a vegan diet, therefore nuts, avocados etc; ( to get necessary good fats), can be bunged in the machine as well.

Do you think I should be a salesman or just stick to classic cars.

Roy, :)

the soup i made just tastes like veg soup but a bit week lol the only non veg ingredient was chicken stock i used by mistake (should have used the green one) i think they have a lot of salt etc in them? had to add in total 1L of water cos it kept getting thicker.. anyway ill make it again and could add in i suppose any veg to bulk it up. the drink i made was actually quite nice after chilling for a short while too so thats 3 lunches from 1 attempt at a juice!

if i can get 2 or 3 veg drink recipes that are nice ill be happy

izzi, id have loved to bay a fancy juicer like the masticating ones but could only afford the the £30 argos one, does the job and the pulp isnt too wet so must get most of the juice out!

thanks for reading and posting guys but any suggestions? i know very little about any food, im getting some ideas from google but flying blind

Try the Blue Dragon sauces. Some of them are designed for stir fries so we are in the correct ball park. My favourite one is oyster and spring onion. You won't need a whole sachet for just one serving.

i just happen to have 2 packets of that blue dragon thanks!

im finding this juicing easy and simple although worried about the breakfast part with the contradictions that fruit is good/bad, it seems to be 50/50 on the internet and the only way to find proven recipes is to buy a book!

1 juice ive found stops my hunger until lunchtime is a large drink made of 1/2 a pineapple. 2 oranges and 2 apples but apparently its waaaay to sweet for type 2s.... looks like ill have to wait until i feel ill to see for myself lol

ok im going to end this thread, ive tried a good few recipes and found that i was drinking far too much fruit juice and all veg juice ive tried is either disgusting or just not nice lol.

i tried a few different veg juices today and just threw all the juice, pulp and added a few ingredients to make soup and its delicious!

so ill just stick to a health cerial with a small glass of fruit juice for breakfast and make a soup to last a few days once a week, juicing the veg 1st seems to make it nocer than normal soup? plus adding a lot of water wit the veg juice makes it pleasant t o sip or drink!

heres what i done if anyone's interested.

1 broccoli
1 cucumber
4 stalks celery, chopped
1/4 cup fresh parsley sprigs and spinnach
4 carrots
All above juiced and juice added to soup
Add 2 small onions and 2 clove garlic, 2 chicken stock
Kettle full of water
Salt n pepper
Crushed chilli
Boil add lid simmer for 1-2 hours

made about 4-5 mug fulls of nice drinkable soup!
must be good for you?

What a lot of you are missing on is cooking any kind of food actually kills it. Yep anything over 115f Fahrenheit will destroy the food as its no longer alive. I juice all kinds of stuff including fruit to cover up the taste of grass but keep the ratio to 60% veg (leafy greens like cabbage n kale) and the rest is small amounts of fruit i.e. 40%.....There are oodles of green smoothy recipes on you tube and one man i follow very strongly is MARKUS ROTHKRANZ. He nearly died but went back to nature and now is 52 and looks like a 30 year old rock star. Im T2 and keep my levels within 5-7 but some times go over a tad. Juicing and blending is the key....dont just juice as you need the fibre. I also have "Crohns disease and suffered diarrhea for over 2 years. i dont have it now YAY to raw food.

May i also add that iv had "Purpura Vasculitis" for weeks and my legs are heeling just 5 weeks rather than 3-4 months. The hospital are amazed and have taken me off the steroid cream and said "what ever your doing, keep on doing it"

Hi glezga, I have had type 2 for about 11 years now and tried so many different things to level out my blood sugar & lose weight. Finally I read a book called
The Blood Sugar Solution 10-day Detox Diet by Mark Hyman.
It helped me to get going on a totally new way of eating (none of my diabetic nurses or dieticians suggested it) but it has worked. I have been having no processed food now for 12 weeks and only recently allowed myself a couple of treats like toast. But as I seem to be addicted to bread I must ensure I don't go overboard & eat it any more than once in a while.
I have now decided to get onto juicing which I don't think I could have done 12 weeks ago as I needed to get all the rubbish out of my system. Now I'm enjoying beetroot juice, carrot juice, spinach etc. In fact if a vegetable can be eaten raw I will juice it. I suggest you have 3 times as much vegetables to 1 fruit that way you wont be overdoing the sweetness. I have also started sprouting various seeds to add to my smoothies and/or my salads. They are also lovely in a stir fry vegie dish.

I also eat salads, mainly tomatoes, grated carrot, celery, spinach, grapes, and a bit of protein such as fish, cheese or boiled egg. But take care with your protein quantities lest you gain weight instead of losing it.

All the best
