Any link between Lipoma and Diabetes

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with T1 diabetes in August. A few weeks prior I went to my GP as a lump had developed on my thing just about my knee and slightly to the outside.

This was identified as a lipoma by the GP. After T1 diagnosis and the initial weeks of fear and panic and the realisation that I am not '100% healthy' I got so paranoid about everything I convinced myself that this lipoma was something far more sinister. I got a 2nd opinion and they also confirmed it was a lipoma.

A lipoma is a collection of fatty cells with no apparent cause and no links to anything more serious which I am very happy about. It is now getting larger and more paingful so I am going to get it removed.

Just wondered if anyone else has had these or if they could be linked to T1? I'm probably off the mark but I seemed to get both at the same time.

Cheers

JC

No, I sincerely doubt it
T 1 is an immune mediated problem (autoimmune, body doesnt recognise beta cells and thereby destroys them thinking they are invading). What you might find is that having T1 undiagnosed made you more susceptible to the Lipoma - or maybe you just noticed it about the right time

I got dx after a holiday abroad where I had been bitten to HELL by mossies - and convinced myself that the mossie attack was the catalyst for my diabetes. Now of course, thats nonsense- more likey the mozzies went mad because I had lovely sweet blood for the taking!

Totally off topic for which I apologise.

Heard this joke yesterday, If you think you are too small to be effective then you have never been in bed with a mosquito.
