hya ,
welcome to the forum,
im sorry you are feeling so bad and unfortunately im the only diabetic in my family so cannot help u but im sure some of our other mums will be along soon to help you :)

Hi Carol,
I have 1 son who is T1, but i know of another Mum on the forum with 2 daughters who are both T1, i'm sure they'l be plenty along to help you and give you all the advise and support you need. I can only imagine the confussion, upset and worry that you are going through right now, it's bad enough having one child, but you now have 2 as well as your hubby. I'm sending lots of (((hugs))) hang in there and stay strong, remember to eat and rest during the day when you can, otherwise you'l make yourself ill with worry, and your son really needs you right now. Take care, there are many here for you including myself.

hi there, thanx for your reply, i would love to get in touch with the mum that has 2 type 1 daughters, could you try and sort it for me xx

Hi Carol,
I wish i could think of the name of the parent with two T1 children and i'm so sorry that i can't. There are just so many people on the forum that pop up every now and again and until she appears again, i'm afraid i'm useless, but that doesn't stop you from asking questions to the rest of us.
I am really sorry that i can't be of any more help on the subject, perhaps if you try PM one of the moderaters (there in green at the top of the board, they may remember)
Take care,
Suzi x

There is a lovely lady who posts here and her forum name is Orchid. She has two children with diabetes.
Catherine.

Hi Carol,
As Catherinecherub says, I have two girls who are Type 1 (aged 14 and 7). I know how tough it can be. Please feel free to PM me if you want to chat. I look in on the forum most days.

I only have one child with Type 1 but I know quite a few people with two or more children with diabetes. You should check out Alyssa and Steve Renouf's family here in Australia. They have 5 children and I think all are now Type 1 and Steve. You can look up www.diabete-ezy.com.

I can tell you that a set of parents I know and their 2 kids that are Type 1 do the same as you. They check bsl's every 2 hours around the clock. Sadly your fears may rub off on to your children and having to test every 2 hours will be shattering for you, and over time, the kids fingers will be in bad shape. The parents that I know has ended up making their kids disabled and totally dependent upon them. Testing too often also doesn't give you a clear picture of what is going on. It is better to test before a meal and 2-3 hours after. I also quite often give my son his insulin after he has eaten so I know how much to give him rather than give him the insulin and have it either be too much or not enough. Doctors think this is fine for kids and a sensible approach. As you get more confident you might find you can miss the mid morn or arv test when you give them a snack and I sometimes miss the after dinner test and just give him his usually supper and see how he is at 10pm before I go to bed.

My son has had diabetes from when he was 8 months old but unless he is sick I only test him 6-7 times a day and I try to get some nights of sleep (but don't get nearly as many as I would like). I do trust my mother's intuition and if he ever has a severe hypo I know how to use the hypo kit and call an ambulance. Children can run a bit higher than adults so maybe let up a bit and try to find some balance. You might find that children also deal with blood sugar problems better than adults also. I have mistakingly given my son his fast acting insulin instead of his long acting and had to fill him full of glucose syrup and heaped castor sugar in his bottle. Hey, I'm not perfect and things happen.

I understand your stress but it wont help you or your kids now or in the future.

I know how hard it is and hope you can find some rythmn to make life a bit less about diabetes.

Cheers Jen
