I am having great success on my new low carb diet. (only 10 days in !! but now averaging 6.0 after last month averaging 7.8 ). My new belief was reinforced by the inclusion of a small jacket potato in last nights evening meal and then my next reading going up to 11.8 !
This saturday will be quite a test as i am out for a meal, ...so my question is... does any experienced low carber have advice on eating out at an Indian ? since starting this regime i haven't eaten rice but after the small potato episode I am concerned what to order ? Just to be more fussy I am a vegetarian too.

thanks in advance.

Adrian

Last Indian I had : onion bahji's ( made with chickpea flour which is fine for me ) and 1 poppadum. Tandoori prawn, courgette bahji and aubergine bahji. Very yummy and bg was 6.3 2 hours afterwards, 6.2 3 hours afterwards. :D

I am veggie too, I find Indian one of the best eating out meals as there are plenty of veggie dishes.

I choose as far as possible the driest dishes with as little sauce as possible, as You never know what an individual restaurant uses to flavour them. I never have rice or nan bread, but as jaykay said I can manage the onion bhaji and poppadoms which are made with gram flour, but I cannot touch the mango chutney as it full of sugar.

I may have something like a veggie balti, with mushroom bhaji side dish and a cauliflower bhaji.

If I eat Indian then it is usually a Tandoori Chicken or Special (mixed) with extra salad, half a small Naan or a chapati, teamed up with a couple of poppadoms and pickles. Fantastically low carb and tasty....... :D

Mind you other times I might manage half a portion of Chicken Jalfrezi, a spoonful of Pilau rice and a negligible effect on Bg levels. :D Only found that out by experimenting and testing with each meal I liked the look of. The 'doggy bag' for what's left so nothing is wasted.

Thanks for the ideas... I thought it was good to avoid the rice, and as I really like onion bhaji's I had them with my curry.. mushroom chilli masala, which was fantastic. Only had a couple of lite beers and was very pleased with readings of 6.8 a couple of hours later. :D
Thanks again. Adrian.
