It's my first time going away with diabetes and I am a bit worried about it. It's been worrying me for months. I am going away for a few days, and I don't know what I will need (apart from all my diabetes stuff). Is there anything else I need to do? It's scaring me so bad.

whenever I go away from home I always take my insulin , testing , spare meter , extra test strips , and sweets for hypos , a pack of digestives.

you'll be fine -- try not to worry :)

where are you going ?? :)

Its okay, dont worry. I would be scared to go away for weeks or months but a few days is just a few days. I usually take another box of test strips, antibacterial wipes or gel travel size, extra needle, some more candy or sugary thing in my bag in case I go very low. And I like to take some zero or low carb snacks as well, if others decide to have some food I dont want to be watching them eating and me being left out! Enjoy ur time there, wherever ur going its going to be great, dont worry too much !:)

I always freak out too. I take lots of extra supplies and some foods that travel well like nuts and avocado. I tend to find grocery stores and stay in hotels with refrigerators. I try my best to stick with my low carb foods

Being around people eating all day long and food always available stresses me out. I would love to dig in but I usually don't.

Above all, just do the best you can and see joy yourself

Extra supplies spilt up in different bags or locations. Keep one set on you and keep another set of supplies at your accommodation. A frio bag is good for keeping your insulin at a safe temperature if you have no fridge. You'll be fine and help should all go wrong is only a phone call away.

Alex, dude, what will happen is that you'll go away on the holiday, it'll take you out of your normal routine a bit, so you'll need to think about what you're eating and when and use the normal rules you've hopefully been taught about carb counting and action of insulin and then apply those rules to whatever you're eating.

You've posted before about the stress of diabetes. I can understand that. It is stressful. One of the important things to learn is being able to say, yeah, haven't been in this situation before, but let's see how I'll deal with it and fit my T1 into it too.

A few days in Great Yarmouth isn't that much of a challenge. There's a bigger chance of you being bored to death with a quiet seaside town than anything serious happening on the T1 front - (sorry to any GY residents!). You'll cope with it and then you'll go back home and say to yourself, see, I did that, no problem, what was I worrying about. And then you'll be planning a couple of weeks abroad.

It's understandable you being cautious so early after dx, but you'll get to a stage where you're happy flinging a few pens, strips etc. etc. in a backpack and jumping on a plane for a couple of weeks away somewhere.

You'll be fine, try not to worry is the first thing to do! Pack twice as many needles, testing strips and insulin than you would normally use - just in case. Also carry a hypo treatment everywhere you go and don't beat yourself up if your sugars are higher or lower than normal - it can happen when you change your routine but it's not your fault. I'm sure you will have a great time!
