[QUOTE="DiabeticGeek, post: 22769, member: 7961"] You probably are being a bit impatient, these things don't happen overnight. You are right, in that you eventually want to get your BG a lot lower than 7, but it is a lot to expect it to be much lower than that only two weeks after diagnosis. If you stick to a seriously low carb diet, then it will almost certainly come down over the next few weeks. If it doesn't, then you might need some different medication, but it is far too early to tell that yet. Hopefully, by the time you get to see your diabetes specialist it should be obvious whether or not the diet is working. As for the weight loss, then a low carb diet will help that too. Many people loose quite a lot of weight when they first go onto a low carb diet, but again it isn't instant and it doesn't always work like that. I suggest that you keep a detailed food diary for at least a week. Write down everything that you eat, and work out your daily carbohydrate and energy (calories) intake. It is possible that in order to loose weight, you might need to cut back on calories as well, but you will probably find that on a low carb diet you don't need to be nearly as brutal with calorie control as you would have to be on a calorie-based diet.
