Anyone check their own Blood Pressure ?

I have an Omron M2 - basic but does the job. My BP is usually 95/55 ish.

I have to take BP tablets after my bypass (tablets not negotiable) even if I do get a bit dizzy standing up

Ditto me. I use it more to monitor low BP, as the medication is helping to push me too low. Autonomic neuropathy can also mess up how heart rate/blood pressure behave, so low BP episodes can be as much an occupational hazard for diabetics as high (so I am told). All good fun.

Yeah, I use an Omron.
Was 145/90 80 and I think in the docs when I was diagnosed he just kept pressing the button as I was off the richter scale.

Now I'm in the 130s/70s 65 which I'm OK with, it is coming down with my weight.

Test about once a fortnight.

I check my blood pressure. I originally bought a tester when the Dr. tested it and said it was high and wanted to put me on pills. To make his point he said that I was to go to the hospital and have a monitor fitted for 24 hours. This showed normal and suggested that it was high when the Dr. took it and not at other times. White coat syndrome was declared and no pills given. I bought a monitor in self defence.

Some years later something similar happened with DN. A very high reading and mention of pills. I said it was blue frock syndrome since she doesn't wear a white coat. I told her what happened last time and she looked it up. Another 24 hour session as well as me taking spot readings for a week. Dr. thinks it's OK but DN still wants me on pills (as a precaution). I bought a 24 hour machine of my own (also as a precaution).

My concern is that DN's decision was made after one reading in the surgery with her blood pressure monitor. For my purposes I really need to know if the pills are doing any good since I alway get adverse side effects and have to decide whether it is worth it.

I am half way through the current round of readings and see DN on Monday. I am not getting readings that concern me and am now doing the ones with the pills being taken. We shall see the results at the end of the week.

We have one because my husband needed to monitor and log his BP for a couple of weeks when he was first found to have high blood pressure the doctor said it did not need to be an expensive one just a basic one from the chemist so we got one for £15 from Boots he does not use it anymore and I have a six monthly BP check by my doctor

That is low Robert, I'd feel faint with those levels, especially the systolic.

The latest Which? has blood pressure monitors on test. One of the cheapest came top: Kinetik Upper Arm Monitor BMP1C (£20 from Argos). Still not too late for that special Christmas present...:) (but don't confuse with Kinetik wrist monitor BPM3, which is a 'don't buy').

Can someone explain please how you know what is a good reading or bad reading on one of these BP Monitors. I don't understand all this 120/60, 98/57, 147/84 stuff. I have got a monitor but just don't know how to use it.

NO!! Cos I've just checked myself and it was 138/99 just below High blood pressure.:(:( In fact there was only 100 on the bottom scale and I got 99 of them.:(

the 138 is OK. The 99 is high. Try again, sit up straight, no crossed legs. Make sure you are rested and haven't just run up the stairs.

over 100 is tachyacardic

Right just done another reading and got 134/89 which still puts me in the pre high blood pressure band but is better than the last one.;)

Hello to one and all, sadly I only have a wrist cuff to take my blood pressure and It gives my pulse rate as well.
Up to now it has been fairly accurate, and my pressure seems to be ok for now. If I wake up with a fuzzy head or feel dizzy, then out comes the cuff, watch off and onto left wrist and reading recorded,

To one and all, have good days from Wednesday to Friday and as Noble says, "Everything in Moderation" Merry Christmas, ttfn Karen

Just checked again and 118/87, much better. I think It was high earlier because of all the stress I get from that Snowy12 person. She's enough to make anyone's blood boil.:D:D

I had mine done last week with the nurse it was 120/70
