Hey all. Sorry this is long but I feel like I'm losing my mind and wanna know if anyone else has experienced this.
I've been feeling really unwell lately, so much so that I cannot work or go out or do much. I had covid in November which then triggered a flare of gastritis and I've been on 40mg esomeprazole since the start of 2022. I was previously on 20mg omeprazole for 4 years and had little to no issues. I am currently trying to taper off the PPI.
My stomach has since improved, but about 4 weeks ago I started experiencing the following symptoms:
Extreme weakness and fatigue
Breathless and lightheaded (standing makes this worse)
Shakiness and aching going down both arms
Pale gums and pale lips sometimes
Pain in my arm when I draw
Sensitivity to light, it hurts to even look at my phone sometimes
Pain behind my right ear where my jaw connects
Twitching muscles in my thighs and cheek
Dry eyes - I need drops when I wake up just to see properly
Palpitations (not fast, just consciously can feel my heart beat)
A sensation that my body is vibrating
Nausea
Mild vertigo - I did the swivel chair test and I get very dizzy
Migraines
Aching face and behind eyes when I try to sleep (I've been given amitriptyline to help me sleep)
Major brain fog, slow thoughts and forgetting words
Insomnia
A feeling at the back of my head and neck that feels like my head has fallen asleep
Tense neck/shoulders/upper back
Cold hands and feet
Feeling very slow in my movements, I cant walk very far without feeling nauseous.
My hair is dry and I'm losing more than usual, and I have a sudden onset of a LOT of grey hairs. I'm only 32.
All in all I just feel really unwell and I noticed it gets worse when I sit at a computer or even try to draw on my ipad. I feel really out of it and daylight makes me very groggy.
I've seen a few doctors and they are not sure yet. But no signs of anything wrong on physical examination.
I had a blood test and my thyroid is fine (TSH 3.0). They need to re test my folate, ferritin and B12 as my folaye sample hemolyzed and the B12 was showing as 846 which is inaccurate.
My vitamin D was low. 36.
My hba1c was horrendous - 110mmol. But this was expected as I've had covid, I was burgled, i lost a pet and a family member and nearly lost my job in the space of 6 months. My sugars have been really hard to control.
So far they think it's either
Low B12
A neck injury from poor posture
Long covid
My white cell count was also slightly up on my blood test but I had a cold last week.
My eye test showed no problems except slight dryness.
Everything else on my blood test was fine.
Anyone else ever have these symptoms? I'm really scared because its debilitating and I can barely do anything. I constantly feel like I've been hit with a baseball bat. I've started supplementing vitamin D, K2 and floradix tablets.
Edit: Forgot to add that there were no signs of anemia on my full blood count. Only an elevated white cell count but I'm unsure if that rules out the B12 deficiency as they have requested this again on a second blood test this Friday.
