HIGH blood sugars!
This afternoon my post meal BG was 4.1 but then something verystrang happened I was having what I call a moderately stressful afternoon and about 30 minutes ago 3 hours after my last post meal bg test and it was 12.6 ! I had not eaten or drunk anything apart from water in that time so all I can think is that the stress caused it but I have never expirenced this before, so I am just asking to see if anyone here has had this happen to them?

Yes, stress can do this to you. It causes the release of cortisol, which in turn triggers glucagon, raising levels for fight or flight.

Yep, it's very common. Significant stress can & does easily send my blood sugar into double figures when I know without the stress (i.e. If I'd had the same meal and the same bolus and was having a lovely calm day) it would be fine.

I think (i.e it's just my poorly understood guess) it works like this - stress, proper stress, will give a fight or flight reaction. It makes your body release adrenaline - the adrenaline blocks your insulin sensitivity, so while that's floating round your system your are going to climb. Try to be cautious about correcting for stress, because when you relax you are likely to drop like a stone.

Yes, it happened to me everyday! Morning reading was 6.4 and it raised up to 13.2 from the commute from home to office. (london commute - pretty stressed out)

Sometime i found if i dont drink enough water the reading will go double figure, but as long as i drink 2 to 3 glasses of water, the reading drop back to single figure within 30 mins...hope its normal :-)

Yes, I find stress can push my sugars right up. But, annoying, stress can also have the opposite effect and make me low.

I wish I could work out which way my BS is going to go!

Like @catapillar , I'm cautious about correcting because I find my BS less predictable when stress is involved. A walk is my usual choice - gets the blood sugar down a bit and helps with calming me down too.

I am the same as azure, sometimes I run high others low which is annoying to say th least
