Anyone else really sensitive to Dextrose?

... OK that might sound like a daft question to ask on a diabetic forum but bear with me!

I seem to react drastically if I have any food that has Dextrose listed as an ingredient. For example for lunch just I had 1 Oat bap and 50g nuts (33g carbs total)

only to scan an hour later after feeling a bit odd to find this:

What I think caused it was the 2 slices of chicken I had on the sandwich, the fourth ingredient of which is..... Dextrose!

I wouldn't think there was that much in there but I also can't eat pork scratchings as they all have dextrose in them as well (admittedly way down the list).

Does anyone else get this?

Really annoyed as I was having a goodish numbers day right up until then!

Not a daft question at all, that is a big bg spike and understand your frustration @staffsmatt

Cheers @noblehead calmed down a bit now . I know I should be reading labels but sliced chicken for goodness sake! (OK calmed down *a bit*)

You wouldn't imagine they'd be much Dextrose in the chicken to make such a difference to your bg levels

I love chicken and eat this more than any other meat, your better just buying a whole chicken to use over the week, that's what we do to use in sandwiches and such.

Yeah true, it is (or is supposed to be!) 98% chicken though and the sugar value is 0.2g a slice so you'd think it would be OK. Still 10.5 and dropping now so not too much harm done . Might be worth it if it gets me cooking proper good too!

The cook in the bag chickens from Aldi are very good value for money at under £4, they are great as there's no cross-contamination with handling raw meat.

Hope your bg levels return to normal by the time you next eat @staffsmatt

I like to throw lots of garlic, paprika and all purpose seasoning over my chooks when I cook them

Try rubbing the skin with Olive Oil and then sprinkle a chicken Oxo Cube over it, makes for a nice tasty chicken :)

Me too, really hungry niw after all the talk about roast chicken

I put butter/clover spread underneath the breast skin and a whole lemon inside. Its lovely, very tasty, yet simple too.:hungry: Teenager had sandwiches for school lunch, we both had leftover cold chicken, salad and potatoes, and the two cats had the other bits,:cat::cat:
