Morning all. I'm not even sure if I have insulin resistance but I keep reading (and hearing from my diabetes nurse) that 1 unit of rapid acting insulin should bring down BG by 2 or 3 mmol but that doesn't seem to be the case for me. EG. Last night, as I was running slightly high I took 4 units of Novorapid before bed to keep me in range during the night. This seemed to do the trick although on waking at 3am it was out of range slightly - 10.9. I took another 5 units of Novorapid and it dropped to around 5.8 after a couple of hours and is now running at 6.9 with horizontal arrow so definitely not causing hypos. Is this normal? My basal is 20 units and this morning I am trying to split the dose with 8 units and then will take another 12 units this evening to see if that improves things overnight and doesn't meanI have to take a pre-emptive dose of the rapid insulin before bed/in the early hours to keep in range. Does any of this make sense? I have had almost no hypos since my diagnosis 3 months ago (am 55) but run high-ish quite often and often seem to have to correct because of it. I eat a low carb diet (maximum of 2 meals a deay) and don't snack apart from nuts which I don't bolus for but maybe I should although they don't usually spike me much. Any thoughts?
