Hi

I've had my pump almost 10 years. I've been having various problems for the past 2 years or so. I've had the new medtronic 640g for almost a month and I hate it. Big brick that it is! Anyway, am thinking enough is enough, I want to go back to MDI.. just wondered if anyone had and was their clinic OK about it?

Thanks

Tried it for 2 weeks. Just could not get as good bg levels as with pump. I agree the 640 is quite chunky

I did not tell clinic until after I had already tried it.

I have done just that. I have an insulin pump for more than 20 years. A few years ago I got tired of the pump, catheter and all that. I splashed 21 units Lantus, 2 units more than using the pump. It worked well immediately. But I got problems. Every time I wanted to do sports, I had to eat a lot to be able to run around 2 hours. In the morning, the blood sugar was about 4.5. But the insulin worked less than 24 hours, so I got a gap of 3 hours. I managed no satisfactory functioning setting. I was used to correct the insulin adjustment wirh the pump two hours before the problem appeared and couldn't think for a distance of 24 hours. After 4 to 5 month I wore my pump again. Try it out for yourself. It's okay to take a break from the pump and find out if it works without. Maybe it will become a long break, or you'll be happy to return to the pump. I wish you every success. I had no clinic problems but I live in germany.

Thank You both.
I have taken breaks before, a few days, a few weeks.
My life is more routine these days so I find I am OK on the injections and it's not too much of a hassle.
I think I shall take a break, and see how I feel. If it wasn't the NHS paying for the pump then yeah I'd have a break til I was ready to go back but as the pump is not actually mine I know I have to tell the clinic.

My dsn said its your choice, they may not renew your pump after the 4 years though

no, that's the thing, once you give it back that's that.
life changes and how you deliever insulin needs to go with those changes, the pump was great for shift work.
now i think mdi will be ok, but who knows what the future holds. tricky!
will chat with my nurse i think.
