Hi all,
I'm due to have Ileostomy surgery very shortly and really worried about what I'm going to be able to eat as also type 1.

Can anyone relate?

Best wishes
Gary

The one thing I remember the Stoma Sister saying was for ileostomy specifically, 'no onions' for some months, stoma+onions= anathema.
I'm sure that's totally unhelpful!
My very best wishes for a safe and easy surgical journey.

Hi my partner has had an illeostomy stoma for nearly 30 years. I do most of the cooking and to be honest she eats most things I do, as previously stated she does keep away from onions and peas, she tends to stay away from spicy food and gassy drinks. Nuts and cocoa nut are a no no too something to do with them congealing and forming a ball.
She has a good appetite but like with all new things a little bit of time and experience will work wonders, the stoma specialist should be able to help with any fears you may have
As far as carbs are concerned she tends to eat most things without problems
