Hi looking for some advice if possible.
Ok im looking to see if my symptoms sound like type 2 diabetes. I know that sounded strange however let me try any explain.
I was refered to General Medincine clinic back in Dec 2008 as i was having episode where im my eyes i was feeling faint, hot sweaty and feeling like i was going to pass out whch ive been told now is a hypo, in 2008 i had been tested several time for diabetes as I have coeliacs disease and family history of diabetes all tests came back fine, until one came back 0.05% higher than it should be and was then refered to diabetic clinic and was told yeah i had type 2.
Now i couldnt really understand and questioned and questioned the doctors but they still stick to their deciison this was what i had. Ive not really had any support since then ive been to the clinic a few time and they seem happy but keep telling me to maintain my levels. However due to my coeliacs disease adn various alergies to fish, egg and nuts im findign things really tough just now trying to stabelised my levels.
My Blood sugar levels go as low as 3.5 and highest think has been 11. My blood sugar seems to drop rapidly. Im having real diffculty stablising it and not really getting much support from doctors or dietians.
I attended my doctor last week as we are going to try for a baby i told the doc i was having real issues wiht my bs told him my readings and he basically sais well that doesnt sound much like type 2 diabetes. Now they want me to go threw more testing.

Can anyone give me any advice.

not sure if ther is enough info but even tho ive technically been diagnosed for over a year i honestly dont really know to much :(

Thanks for reading

Awwe bless you!

I'm type 1 so i don't know enough about type 2 to advise you i think,

But if i post then it'll bump this up so people that may be able to help can advise you :)

At least the doc you saw is wanting to get you through some tests.. which sounds like to me he's picked up on your strange readings and difficulty to control them so it's positive he's going to do some proper tests to give you some definate answers.

Hope this gets sorted for you super quick so you can be happy and have some little ones running around soon :)

it's really no problem :)

i hate seeing peoples post's going unanswered..

just seems sometimes there'snobody online who can help you or feels like they can't or is a newbie so doesnt know enough yet...

So if i bump you up then one of the more experienced membersc can see your post and lend a helping hand :)

Well i defo fall inot the newbie category! I know nothing lol !

But well here hoping.

Thanks Again for you nice reply.

Hi Dee :)

As you have been diagnosed as T2 then you would be wise to follow the ‘Advice to new T2s’ which is usually posted by Ken and/or Sue, our Forum Monitors and so I will quote it below for you.

Keep a food diary and note your BG readings against the food you eat so that when you get your referral appointment for more tests you will have something to show them which just might help. They may change your diagnosis or equally they may not but whatever happens this is a good place to find information and ask questions. 8)

Welcome to the forum. here is the advice we usually give to newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics. This forum doesn't always follow the recommended dietary advice, you have to work out what works for you as we are all different .

It's not just 'sugars' you need to avoid, diabetes is an inability to process glucose properly. Carbohydrate converts, in the body, to glucose. So it makes sense to reduce the amount of carbohydrate that you eat which includes sugars.

The main carbs to avoid or reduce are the complex or starchy carbohydrates such a bread, potatoes, pasta and rice also any flour based products. The starchy carbs all convert 100% to glucose in the body and raise the blood sugar levels significantly.

The way to find out how different foods affect you is to do regular daily testing and keep a food diary for a couple of weeks. If you test just before eating then two hours after eating you will see the effect of certain foods on your blood glucose levels.

Buy yourself a carb counter book (you can get these on-line) and you will be able to work out how much carbs you are eating, when you test, the reading two hours after should be roughly the same as the before eating reading, if it is then that meal was fine, if it isn’t then you need to check what you have eaten and think about reducing the portion size of carbs.

When you are buying products check the total carbohydrate content, this includes the sugar content. Do not just go by the amount of sugar on the packaging as this is misleading to a diabetic.

As for a tester, try asking the nurse/doctor and explain that you want to be proactive in managing your own diabetes and therefore need to test so that you can see just how foods affect your blood sugar levels. Hopefully this will work ! Sometimes they are not keen to give Type 2’s the strips on prescription, (in the UK) but you can but try !!

As a Type 2 the latest 2010 NICE guidelines for Bg levels are as follows:
Fasting (waking).......between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals......no more than 8.5 mmol/l.
If you are able to keep the post meal numbers lower, so much the better.

It also helps if you can do 30 minutes moderate exercise a day. It doesn't have to be strenuous.
