Yes this is why I made sure the other variables of diet and exercise did not change by logging food and exercise with close attention to macros, and waited several weeks to see what the CGM indicated. At first I was not sure at all but it became very obvious after a few weeks that the BG was going upwards.I suspect people will think its naive but the placebo effect shouldnt be dismissed or understated. Even those on this can maintain good habits from the early stages of the trial.
Well that is interesting. I am minded to think any bitterness or lack off with the pill could be misleading. It could be that your body has quickly adjusted to the real drug hence the return to pre-trial normality. I guess each individual will have different feelings.I’m convinced I’m on the placebo and it tastes bitter as hell. The run in phase felt so different. Loss of appetite, hypos etc . I feel normal like pre trial
Too early to say I think,What are your results telling you: HbA1c, finger prick or CGM - improved/same/worse since being Randomised?
Yes, if you have the means of checking your blood glucose (meter/CGM) then check it to see what is happening (as per the ASCENDPLUS leaflet). I say this because shortly after starting the 14mg "X" type treatment (week 1 or 2) mine went to 3.8mmol (test strip reading). I was out walking at the time had a couple of sweets with me. I also had a 3.2mmol CGM reading in the early hours which scared me (but finger prick showed 4.4mmol). I also had a headache and tiredness. I reported this to the Oxford team and I am now on the lower 7mg dose (called the "Y" type treatment). My readings are now stable and indicate that I am heading for a non-diabetic HbA1c result from my next test in late May and I am expecting the GP to take me off of the one 40mg of Gliclazide I am currently on (I can't take Metformin). My stomach has now settled down, but I am now slightly constipated! I am eating more fibre and drinking more water for this and it helps. Only had the CGM for the free trial of 15 days, now gone back to using the strips (which, I have more confidence in). Good luck, and best wishes.Hi all,
I’ve just started on the randomisation stage.. day 2!
No idea which one I’m on but today after dinner my stomach was painful and then the trips to the loo started. Only felt nauseous in the run in stage. Headache and tiredness as well this evening. Anyone else had these symptoms?
Perhaps the mind plays tricks but I am convinced I am on the real thing albeit the randomised pill doesn't taste bitter. In essence my side effects have elevated since i went to 14mg a week ago. One assumes that wouldn't be the case with placebo?
have to agree with this. didnt have many side effects at beginning but they increased a bit at 7mg and more at 14mg. pill never tasted bitter and that didnt change at 14mg.Perhaps the mind plays tricks but I am convinced I am on the real thing albeit the randomised pill doesn't taste bitter. I started randomised tab on good fri. I thought i'd know like you if i was on the placebo or not, but since starting it i haven't felt very well, mainly headaches & nausea. I wasnt able to eat anything yesterday at all. I wonder if i am on the active ingredient tab & this is my body trying to cope with the double dose?I’m one month in to the randomisation phase now and convinced I’m on the placebo. All my side effects (nausea mainly) being in the run in of Semaglutide have stopped. The down side is there has been quite an upsurge in my BG levels. Now true, this has coincided with a little more indulgence over Xmas but I’m surprise by how much of a difference it has made especially to my morning levels. I clearly lost some weight on the drug but pleased today no weight gain since being on this “placebo”.
Anyone else on this and at the Randomisation phase?
Oh no, poor you - that's pants. I do hope you feel a lot better very soon, and can contemplate going back on the 7 mg if they suited you.I have just come back from the GP, got to go into hosp if dont get any better by tomoz. Started 14 ml on Good Fri, by Easter Mon i was unable to eat or drink. I contacted the study team who advised stopping the tabs yesterday. Once my system settles down they have said i may be able to go onto the 7ml for the remainder of the trial, if i want! I feel so ill at the mo, i cant think about it.
It did restrict what i ate & defo stopped my sugar cravings. If i can, i probably will go back to 7ml.Oh no, poor you - that's pants. I do hope you feel a lot better very soon, and can contemplate going back on the 7 mg if they suited you.
Thanks. Long way to go yet, alas - still another 5 kg until I'm no longer counting as overweight! Oh well, I'm in no rush... losing about 400 grammes per week works for me. I hope you do get back on the 7mg if it works for you. Once my body had adjusted, I didn't really notice any side-effects. All the same, I'm glad we had those 12 weeks on a lower dose!It did restrict what i ate & defo stopped my sugar cravings. If i can, i probably will go back to 7ml.
Well done you though, fab weight loss.
Oh well done you - just a thought but charity shops are great for getting clothes you're only going to wear for a short while - then you can happily donate them back when they get too big and everybody wins. Keep posting. After nearly 3 months on what I am 99.9% sure is the real thing, not the placebo, I've lost significant weight, from 86.3 kg in January down to 79.6 kg last week. Without really trying! So that's a win - I'm hoping to eventually get down to 70 kg or below, but no rush. I'm no longer obese, which is a plus, just overweight. However, my insides are in constant flux - either "won't go" or "can't stop", which is a nuisance as I never know which it's going to be. And my summer trousers are too big, and this year the cheap ones (I don't want to spend a lot of money if I'm to drop another dress size before summer's end) are all wide-legged, which doesn't suit me!
By the way, the 14 mg pill doesn't taste nearly as bitter as the 7 mg pill did - I thought at first it must be the placebo, but then I started to feel sick.... quickly adjusted, though, other than the aforementioned bowel issues. I have no way of measuring my blood sugar, but do get hypos now, which I never did before - such a bore, as I get so cross for no reason, and then so sleepy afterwards!
