Anyone seen this ??

Very interesting, I wonder how truthful they are about the degree of side effects. Weight loss would be good, not so sure about UTIs, I get enough of those anyway. Bladder cancer doesn't sound so great either, as they mention it, there must have been some concern raised during clinical trials. Still, very interesting.

One never knows :)

It's interesting

When I was in my very early twentys I had peptic ulcers a condition at that time considered lifelong and incurable.
Then thanks to the work of a couple of your countrymen Mike we were given a course of tablets some antibiotics and were sent on our way cured.
So you live in hope sometimes miracles do happen.

Never give up Sancho :) Yep, we do some good work down here and rapt it worked out for you :)

How about just not eat it in the first place? :banghead::banghead:

Yeah cos it is that simple......

I tried Forxiga last May when the glic and januvia suddenly stopped working. It had zero effect and days later I ended up on basal bolus. My mate is a rep for this drug and tells me it is being used with great success in the clinics she covers.

Sorry Ali if I touched a nerve, I was maybe a bit flippant and personally no I don't think it's that simple. But the article didn't come across that way as a drug that would help those that had tried other avenues - I read it as it's ok to eat sugar/carbs and take this pill and just pee it out.

Did you actually read the report?
Yes and it never mentioned that is was a drug to try after everything else has failed - or if it did I didn't see it - but considering I have now been awake for 26 hrs in a row maybe my judgement and perception is screwed and I need to step away from the keyboard

I read it as a positive, not an avenue to ignore diet / exercise etc etc.

No worries. Mike :)

I reckon you need some kip lol, 26 hours??!! I cut my carbs on diagnosis, got a better A1C and all ticked along ok with a few adjustments to meds along the way. Then it all went wrong last spring, very suddenly, figures in the high teens all of the time regardless of what I did with diet and exercise etc. We tried all of the new drugs from Victoza to Forxiga and everything in between to no avail. Sometimes, people can make changes that help hugely, but for some of us it all goes wrong and only insulin will do.

I am doing LCHF now and do you know what, last week I had the worst readings I have had for a few months now and no weight loss despite not eating massive amounts of fat etc. Believe me, the frustrations sometimes are so huge that I don't think life is worth living. I am sick of helping myself and getting nowhere, of not following the "norm" and having endos scratch their heads. So when I read flippant posts or posts that state facts as being black and white, I get even more disheartened and despondent than ever. I log my food on MFP and my cals are between 1200 and 1500 a day, below my TDEE etc, makes not a blind bit of difference. Calories in, calories out....... jeeeeeez, if only!

Interesting article! It is a start! And all medicines start somewhere! I just wish that someone had told me about lchf and the detrimental effect of carbs 20 years ago.

I seem to recall that when I was diagnosed I peed out excess sugar, without needing anybdrugs to help...

Yup, anything over a reading of about 10 produces sugar in the urine I think.

Yep, but this drug seems to cut out the reabsorption of glucose at the kidney once it has forced out the glucose to the urine, so it's pump out glucose, rather than the usual kidney function of remove everything and just take back in what you want!

Dear Ali,

Shouldn't you be on insulin? It sounds as if you've been misdiagnosed as type 2 when you're actually a type 1/1.5. If I've got the wrong end of the stick of course then sorry. But when those drugs don't work, how about the simplest drug - insulin?

I have been taking Forxigia for two months now and not sure that it is making great deal of difference, but have lost some weight, but have to have another hb1c tet next month. However, I have recurring episodes of thrush for five weeks so am not happy with that side effect at all!! Mentions in article for obese patients, well am not obese but am overweight and I also have tablets for high blood pressure. Will be seeing GP again in few weeks and then the blood test so will be interested to see if the 3 mth reading is lower than 61.

Have tested myself every so often but do not seem to get any different readings from different meals but am trying low carb as well.
