Hi,

Just wondered if anyone else stopped Jardiance (I have as dr said not compatible with low carb diet due to dka risk- was in A&E recently with high ketones but I think now was related to the diet. Still too risky to continue taking jardiance.)

I've noticed my sugars are high again despite being on low carb. :(

Just wanted any personal experience of someone else?

Thanks x

I think short term that could happen, as your system adjusts to the lack of pharmaceutical support. Has your Doc replaced the Jardiance with anything else, or are you "flying solo" for now?

Flying solo for now, other than the metformin. They said if I continue with keto and my sugars are still high they will introduce a once weekly injection.

I'm not sure how high the high you refer to actually is, so forgive me if I've missed that. How long have you been asked to try Metformin only?

Initially two weeks, I'm on my second week now. I've just thought, I've just started taking vitamins..they are coated but say no added sugar. Will stop those.

Levels are 18.

Thanks for responding.

I’ve been on this meds for about 3 months now and it’s been ok apart from itchy thrush now and again. The only thing that is concerning me now is I’m losing weight when I don’t need too! I’m trying to put it on it it’s difficult when I follow a low carb diet

very glad it was not DKA! As respects stopping Jardiance, I saw no changes, just as when I started it. It was the only drug I started on at the time that gave me no side effects either. I thought I might have some transient water retention when I stopped, but I didn’t. My general understanding is that SLGT 2 inhibitors and very low carb in general are a mismatch since it’s trying got get rid of the glucose that with a keto diet you are holding to a very minimum anyway.

Did you put weight on or have higher sugar levels after coming off? Thanks for your response

I wasn’t on it for long, a week, stopped due to worst thrush ever experienced and sugar in my wee through the roof! I did have lower bs levels when testing whilst took it, but was weeing and drinking so much water to try compensate. I stopped and my levels went up gradually each day. Like you with no meds I go to teens , twenties. Not fun! Hope you are feeling well and not too many side effects now have higher blood sugar levels again?

Ah that’s not fun, I would go see gp or specialist diabetes nurse.
That’s what I did! Showed them the numbers I’d been getting off my machine, was at 24 by that point and not feeling well with it. Really stressed to them I wasn’t feeling good and the symptoms I was having. It also helped me get referral to diabetes consultant. If there is any query over your type then that might be worth asking for too...although I had to push and push took 1 1/2 years and almost every group type of med...once the go had given me all of them they referred, and seeing the consultant is soooo different, they are specialists and endocrinologists and know their stuff! Now on a med with for me hardly any side effects and had best hba1c since 2018. I’m now anywhere 3-8. It feels so different to 12-24!
So I wouldn’t be worried about stopping a med, like jardiance. There are others. It’s finding the right one and ideally a specialist to look through your history and advice properly. That’s what I found anyways.
I did find lots water helped lower me a bit, but not much, would take hours to drop down to 14ish.

Was just wondering, have you taken jardiance but not done keto diet at same time to see what your levels where? I took Gliclazide for a while, and couldn’t do low carb on it, made my hypo. Also was worried about the weight gain on it. Im sure you will get a solution to feeling well and having lower levels. ☺️

I've been on 10mg jardiance for 1 month, (I had severe stomach pain with metformin, increased fasting blood sugars and a lot of hypo episodes during the day, and occasionally at night). I have the opposite issue with jardiance. Initially (the first week) I lost weight fast, but as soon as my body acclimated, I gained it back, plus another couple of pounds. I dont understand. My blood glucose decreased maybe 2 points, but, I'm eating low carb (30-50 net carbs per day), I feel like I am starving myself. I thought this drug would help more, but it has not.

I’m on Forxiga (3rd week now), which is similar to Jardiance, as well as metformin and I’ve not had any side effects at all. I was told the most common side effect was thrush and UTIs as the extra sugar gets passed through the kidneys and therefore the wee. I’m wordering if that hasn’t happened to me as I’m on a keto diet so mustn’t have a constant large amount of glucose in my urine. Just a thought :)

This happened to me as well. I had a rebound blood sugar reaction, also gained weight quickly due to constant high blood sugars. I had lingering urinary urgency for 3 months that is almost normal now. I was put back on a higher dose of metformin than I had before Jardiance. Slowly my fasting blood sugars are returning to a lower level. It has taken 4 months for the side effects to nearly disappear, I'm almost there. Good luck, you will get there. And of course, everyone's reaction can be different.

I stopped 3 days ago and my blood sugar is climbing even on low carbs and sensible eating. I am not exercising but will start soon. The reason I stopped is I had really bad joint pain in the knees and could barely walk for 6 weeks. I think but not sure the jardiance caused this. I am currently on 1000 mg of metformin 2x daily and it does not work
