Hi bikerbaby,
I eat Lindt chocolate in small amounts including the plain one, the ginger one and the chili one. They do not affect my blood sugars and it really boils down to preference. Some eat Green and Blacks and supermarket's own brand. Test and see what it does for you.

Yes I'n not so keen on the lindt one but the co-opdo a very nice fair traded 85% one and asda and tescos do version as well.

Iv been told its very bitter, i like bournville but thats only 30% cocoa which isnt enough lol, iv looked at asdas own but there are more carbs in it, im trying to be really good as my weight loss is rapid at the min (13lb in 2 weeks) and i dont want to scare it off lol

I don't like the lindt as much because it is bitter. I have just bought a green and blacks 85%

per 100gm
calories - 693
protein - 9.4g
carbohydrate - 15.7g
fat - 61.5g

I find the green and blacks better and a reasonable strip, ie 1/5th of the bar has 3g of carbs which as I have just said elsewhere is only the same as one jelly sweet. My prefered bart as I said before is the co-op, but as I don't live near a co-op I can't get that one often.

I usually buy Sainsburys Taste the difference 85%. I really like the way bars are individually wrapped but recently I discovered Arriba Superieur 81% at Lidls. And it has a slightly more creamy texture and sweetness about it - plus its cheaper at 99p a bar! Actually I should compare the two now:

Per 100g

Sainsburys

Protein: 8.8g
Carbs: 19.2g
Of which sugars: 14.4g
Fat: 51.4g
Of which sat: 31.4g
Mono: 17.6g
Poly: 1.1g
Fibre: 12.4g

Lidls

Protein: 10g
Carbs: 22.8g
Of which sugars: Not given
Fat: 42.8
Of which sat: Not given
Mono: Not given
Poly: Not given
Fibre: Not given

Conclusion: Lidls not too great with nutritional breakdowns.

Oh yes, It is very nice, also 90 per cent infact I prefer it to the lower percentage bars! Maybe an acquired taste. It is worth noting that some dark chocolate is very sweet, I tried Bourneville and found it was sweet and not at all nice. I tried 99 per cent in Canada, never seen it here, tastes ok but the residue is unpleasant - worse than eating dried cocoa powder (I would imagine as I have not tried). Worth noting, though not much use to us here, is that the Canadian Drug Stores and Walmart sell a whole range of sugar free sweet products including cocoanut bars, turtles etc, so if on a visit you might like to check them out, imagine they sell in States also, and they taste pretty good. :D Thorntons also make a 85 per cent dark chocolate, now available in miniature sizes.

Only the 85% + contain so little carbs, I was reading the wrappers of a few bars the other day, in search of a change and found that many of the 'ordinary' dark chocolates have lots of carbs in -well too many for me anyway so I will stil to the 85%.

My favourite for taste :D

The individual wrapped bars are the equivalent of two squares of Llindt and are just 4.3g of carbs each.

The opened choc bar and the glass of Merlot were just to give a sense of scale to the photograph you understand, now what should I do with them now?

Lidl do a high cocoa solids, low carb wholenut chocolate. Delicious!!

Just eaten 1 square Lintz 90% melted in micro with jersey double cream poured over. bliss :D

I tried it , yes it is good a lovley moussy texture - maybe with a bit of splenda it might be even better. You don't need very much of it though.

I don't live by a sainsburys so I can't try their chocolate

Hi anniep
Try with a few berries (strawberies are good) instead of the splenda you get a touch of sweetness but better for you and helps the taste buds not to expect too much sweetness.

What a fabulous picture Sid :!:

What other website would you find such running commentaries and vivid descriptions of chocolate - other than a Chocoholic forum or a diabetic forum

Brings to mind this phrase 'Do you dream in chocolate?' advert on tv LOL

Beautiful picture I agree but I wish I hadn't seen it as now I want some too! I could have the wine though as it lowers my BG levels. By the way I had a chocolate brownie (very small) with my tea this afternoon 8)
