Hello everyone Was in Lantus 1 injection 20 units in the morning HABC1 last time was 65 too high but more to do with diet
Went to doc' who has taken me off Lantus because she was concerned I was waking up on 4
Now on 4-6 units of Apidra with main meal only ok for a couple of weeks but now my numbers are ridiculously high
Feel I really need to be back on the Lantus
Advice appreciated

Apidra is a fast-acting insulin so I'd have thought you would be using it at every meal, and calculating the dose you need each meal based on the carbs you plan to eat?

Have you read this article? It explains it:

I don't know how treatment is done where you live but are you entitled to a course or sessions with a nurse who is skilled in starting people on short acting insulin?

If you are using Apidra correctly and still having these problems then I think you need further advice and/or referrals from a competent nurse, GP or specialist to make sure your diagnosis is correct, as there are several types of diabetes.

You deserve the chance to have an HbA1c well below 68, which is a level at which damage is being done.

It's best to speak to your doc about what you should be on. Do you know whether or not you are still producing sufficient insulin of your own? If you're not, then you should be on both basal and bolus insulins. You can see I'm on lantus and apidra. I can't come off either of those as I don't have the insulin production myself to keep my sugar level down. I think your doc needs to check what may be the best insulin for you. There are mixed insulins available too and maybe this could be an option for you. I wish you the best. :)
