Recently had an appointment with my GP (or clinician) following a new development in the complications I'm experiencing and just using this as a chance to vent.
For context, I developed a numbness in my feet and hands in early 2023, the numbness in my hands went but remained in feet. I explained it to my diabetes nurse shortly after during a routine check up and she did the usual feet check/tests and everything there was good. I mentioned neuropathy and just had the 'it happens' sort of response. Based on what I read, I started to really focus on tightening up my control even more and mostly been at 70+% in range, almost completely eliminating any readings above 12. I'm currently on course for a 6.9% Hba1C, which I know can still be massively improved.
Around March this year (ironically) I was on the Dafne course and on day 1 sat in the chair awkwardly all day, which caused a dull pain just above my coccyx, which shortly after caused a numbness in my... 'gentlemans area' for a couple of weeks, like, it was numb but I was very aware of it brushing against my trousers etc. This eventually went away in a couple of weeks.
In the last month or so, I have been doing a lot of work in the garden as I'm building a retaining wall. This included carrying concrete blocks, railway sleepers and a ton bag of stones (decanted in buckets, I'm not superman) through the house. Followed by the actual building process which was a lot of digging, lifting, swinging a pickaxe and generally kneeling/compressing myself in a lot of awkward positions.
In the last couple of weeks I've noticed that the numbness I had in my feet has now gone up my legs, buttocks and lower back, the lower back is also now very achey.
Which brings me back to my appointment.. I laid out the full history for the doctor and he pulled and prodded me around a lot. I kept stressing the fact that I was type 1 (and have been for 18 years) but he said that based on my symptoms and the fact that I had no current pain and previously had numbness in my groin, it was more likely to be something else. He has referred me to clinical assessment at the hospital which will hopefully be a chat with a neurologist before an MRI and then nerve conductivity tests (If I'm lucky). I sit in a chair all day at work and then come home and do exactly the same, my posture has never good but I am 100% convinced it is diabetic neuropathy and won't hear any different , but, at least I should hopefully get a clear answer soon.
*Oh and just to add, I also had a rare brain tumour in 2019 which was removed and is all clear, I know right, that AND type 1, and yet I never win the lottery? I've had all clear MRIs for that since then so Kings said it was unlikely to be related, but I am usually that 1 in a 1000 guy
