Are diabetics ...

Are diabetics just angry as a whole or misunderstood ? Hehe .

I saw this on a blog and thought it was an interesting question. The question is asking are diabetics more angry than normal because of their having diabetes , their shift in blood sugar , or a combination of both or are we misunderstood because our disease is so pervasive that we cannot escape it and are somewhat like a celebrity hiding from the paparazzi. We are fine until the issue comes up and can't easily escape from it ? I feel myself it is all three . What surprised me the most about this subject is how many blogs and articles are written by people who live with or love diabetics and ask the question . Interesting

I was sure the first comment would say that I was hoping for more people who would open the dialogue up as I did say as a whole. Most people would likely not consider themselves angry people.
 
It's just a stereotype, and a form of discrimination. Diabetics are no more or less angry than anyone else.

Absolutely is . Does that make you angry ? Lmao. I did not write the blog . If you don't think these are issues in diabetics life go look at how many blogs and sites you will find on " the angry diabetic " .surprisingly not one is written by me

Not the ones that I've met. Most have taken the opportunity to grasp life with both hands as they know they are mortal (unlike most people). My sample may be unrepresentative.

Maybe that is what some see as anger ?? We don't shut down and die . I haven't after 37 years of type 1 .
 
The only time I have really seen angry diabetics is on this site besides that..not to many .

I've come across quite a few angry people who have disabilitites, chronic conditions and live with ongoing pain.

And I can see how that can wear on you.
When I was in nearly constant back pain for 2 years I had no idea how much it had affected my personality until the chiropractor sorted it out, almost overnight - and I reverted to the Pain Free Me. What a difference.

So, to answer your question, I don't think that diabetes makes people into angry people. But I do think that the stress, strain and possible pain/distress etc will affect a lot of people who have diabetes. But probably no more than other longterm, physically challenging, possibly painful conditions.

And the people who bear the brunt of that are going to be the carers, partners, friends and relatives.
 
I'm not an angry person, I do think on the whole it's down to our personalities ( I can get a bee in my bonnet at times ). Even last year when I had an accident and severe complications set in, I just had to get through each day as best I could and the only negative/ angry part was my thinking that A & E and the fracture clinic could of helped me more a lot more.
Now, the scream thread is a good outlet for a bit of a moan and a groan.
 
I think this is really interesting! I've never been an angry person but can say that I have definitely become more assertive since becoming diabetic. The big word MUG that used to be tattooed on my forehead appears to have disappeared (well perhaps it's just faded ) and I've leant to say no! I put it down to a positive side effect of insulin!! . Sue xxxxx
 
I'm not angry. For most of us diabetes can be managed and we can live normal lives. I might well be angry if I had Cystic Fibrosis etc and really had something to be depressed about. We are lucky that we have a condition that can be managed back to 'normal'; so many others can't do that.
 
Well interestingly, when I had high blood glucose (before diagnosis) I was short tempered and everything was just a bind so I did as much as possible to avoid things and that included scaring people off with a stare or sharp word. When my blood sugars came down (once I knew) I changed back to my happy go lucky self and happy to do anything for anyone again. So hyperglycemia can cause the "angry" personality trait; well in me anyway
 
Yes, most of are able to manage our diabetes back to 'normal', but there is a small group of diabetics who have a harder time, and I feel for them.
