Are diabetics ...

The only time I have really seen angry diabetics is on this site :) besides that..not to many .

Perceptions. Nothing more, nothing less. I sense / see frustrations, annoyance and people letting off steam. They have a right to that as do you.

Well interestingly, when I had high blood glucose (before diagnosis) I was short tempered and everything was just a bind so I did as much as possible to avoid things and that included scaring people off with a stare or sharp word. When my blood sugars came down (once I knew) I changed back to my happy go lucky self and happy to do anything for anyone again. So hyperglycemia can cause the "angry" personality trait; well in me anyway

I want to thank you for understand what my question here was. I feel that people have misinterpreted this . I agree that my sugars being high or low will change my mood .

I've come across quite a few angry people who have disabilitites, chronic conditions and live with ongoing pain.

And I can see how that can wear on you.
When I was in nearly constant back pain for 2 years I had no idea how much it had affected my personality until the chiropractor sorted it out, almost overnight - and I reverted to the Pain Free Me. What a difference.

So, to answer your question, I don't think that diabetes makes people into angry people. But I do think that the stress, strain and possible pain/distress etc will affect a lot of people who have diabetes. But probably no more than other longterm, physically challenging, possibly painful conditions.

And the people who bear the brunt of that are going to be the carers, partners, friends and relatives.

Thanks Brunneria , well said.

I think this is really interesting! I've never been an angry person but can say that I have definitely become more assertive since becoming diabetic. The big word MUG that used to be tattooed on my forehead appears to have disappeared (well perhaps it's just faded :D) and I've leant to say no! I put it down to a positive side effect of insulin!! :D:D. Sue xxxxx

I need an American translation for MUG :)

I'm not angry. For most of us diabetes can be managed and we can live normal lives. I might well be angry if I had Cystic Fibrosis etc and really had something to be depressed about. We are lucky that we have a condition that can be managed back to 'normal'; so many others can't do that.

Well, not all of us diabetics are manage because after so many years as a type 1 I can list a very long list of complications . I also don't think it is fair to compare diseases and to assume anyone has it better or worse.

@Anaelena , there's angry people in all walks of life, but anger can be a symptom of depression which people with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing.

When I so the topic Are Diabetics...
1st thought was fabulous
Some people mistake passion for anger
I guess it comes down to how many times you tell people, yes I can have a doughnut, no it won't kill me, I don't want one because I'm not hungry, after the 1st 100 odd times the 101 person will get snapped at or laughed at cos they haven't clue

Angry old people were angry young people diabetic or not

IMO there are likely many many 'angry' diabetics. Angry due to constant flux in blood sugars, not being able to eat whatever whenever, not even being able to active if they choose to be without the risk of, essentially - dying.
There are likely many diabetics just angry in general they have this disease, it makes sense, and it really depends who you surround yourself with.

I have been considered a laid back personality.
I always have an understanding of people and their flaws. I have kids and worked and trained kids and adults. In my experience, it is something other than just diabetes or any other condition that makes people angry!
However, anger can and is symptomatic to metabolic conditions. Fluctuating blood glucose levels and Hypoglycaemia anger is prevalent in RH!
Before actual diagnosis, my GP was prepared to send me for counselling, as the slightest thing would irritate and my temper would show itself!
Since diagnosis, control and low carb, I am back to this wonderful person!:D;)

"Are diabetics..." More prone to not completing the title of a thread?

Sometimes I do lose concentra

Are diabetics just angry as a whole or misunderstood ? Hehe .

I saw this on a blog and thought it was an interesting question. The question is asking are diabetics more angry than normal because of their having diabetes , their shift in blood sugar , or a combination of both or are we misunderstood because our disease is so pervasive that we cannot escape it and are somewhat like a celebrity hiding from the paparazzi. We are fine until the issue comes up and can't easily escape from it ? I feel myself it is all three . What surprised me the most about this subject is how many blogs and articles are written by people who live with or love diabetics and ask the question . Interesting

Depends entirely on what I'm being asked about- anger always has a target, after all...

I do get irritated at the papers and the anti-type II propaganda they keep spouting lately- but anger at that is hardly unreasonable, ne>?

Haha my other half says I'm angry a lot but it deffo happens more if I'm high or low, often if I'm being unreasonable I'll do a blood test and it will be high, so I don't think it's having diabetes per se I think it's the effects of highs or lows?

If I was to be angry, it would be at the person whose fault it was that I developed type 2 myself. There is nobody else, nor anything else to be angry about.

Well, not all of us diabetics are manage because after so many years as a type 1 I can list a very long list of complications . I also don't think it is fair to compare diseases and to assume anyone has it better or worse.

Thankyou for pointing this out

I'm educated about foods n lifestyle not angry.
I'm happy with my lifestyle. I do feel sad that the human race is killing itself nowadays with excesses of food but certainly not angry not even when I have a hyper or hypo....as these have been due to pump failure for hypers or my failures in control really with hypo's.
But anger is definitely not in my personality as a trait.

Most people I know would and do describe me as the most laid back person they know...not in the least bit angry. Sure I have my moments ...but that's not down to my diabetes...its usually down to something that's happened.

Haha well I'm probably one of the most laid back guys ever so it's a no for me and I've been type 1 for 18 years, think it just depends on the persons control of their diabetes. I know for a fact every suffer has some point in their life experienced the "oh you have diabetes! So you can't eat sugar" or the many other stupid/silly questions! So can see why maybe from that people get frustrated/ angry etc.
