Are eye floaters a common symptom from type 2?

Was a bit freaked last night at dinner when my field of vision in my left eye filled with a strange abstract pattern that looked liked a huge dragon on a background of tiny black spots. My companions said it was a floater and not to worry. it has eased back a bit today but still disturbing. Do I go to the doctor? Or am I overreacting to anything because of my diabetes diagnosis?

"Proper" floaters tend to be quite stable and not come and go. If they change much or quickly, say with movement etc, then it might be a small bleed, which can look like floaters. A bleed is likely to be red at first (but not always, could be black). Perhaps a visit to your optician might be a good idea?

Floaters are common as the article says, but if you've had problems with diabetic retinopathy in the past or been told that you have some early signs of it then you should consult your gp or Ophthalmologist to have your eyes checked, black spots in the vision can be a bleed that has dispersed and spread out in the vitreous gel.

I've had a floater in my left eye for about 2-3 years now. It doesn't change and it doesn't move. I can see it more when the sun is bright. I'm 23 and type 1.

Feeling a bit nervous on having my eye examined tomorrow morning:-(

i,ve never had floaters but if you are worried, please see a gp or optician

Great news indeed.. Always sensible to get these potential issues checked out..!

Here is a poem from "Family Guy". They don't just do misinformed diabetic gags....

Great to hear it went well.

I do get floaters and they do move around, normally black spots or cobwebs across the vision. Fortunately I haven't had any problem with the diabetic eye checks. I do have an underlying problem with my eyes and require a very strong prescription for glasses/contact lenses, I think that this is more where mine originate from.

If in doubt get it checked, your sight is too valuable to lose.
