Hello I'm new to This site. Just wanted a little bit of advice. I've been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and my levels 20.3 before tea. Is this to high?

The target ranges for type 1 diabetics are to be 4.5 - 7.5 before meals. So, yes 20.3 is too high. However, if you are recently diagnosed there is an element of gradually stepping you down to the target levels because your body will be used to the high levels and suddenly running at healthy blood sugar levels may feel too low for your body.

As a newly diagnosed type 1 you should be in close contact with your diabetic specialist nurse for advice on blood sugar levels and insulin doses. If you're concerned you're levels are too high, you should get in touch with your DSN.

Have you been given any guidance on correction doses? Have you been advised to test for ketones when blood sugars are high? Do you have a ketone testing kit?

Ive been diagnosed with type 1 for about 5-6 weeks now, i talk to my dsn about once a week atm. Because there been running this high for about a week now. I was worried so contacted my dsn. Yes there given me a bit of info on correction doses, and they said every 3 I'm over my target to give myself one extra unit of insulin. But just doesn't seem to work. Yes I have a ketone testing kit and I done them and my meter said low. But my dsn said I can't give myself extra insulin if it's not 4 hours apart. My dsn don't work on weekends so can't contact them atm.
