I have been a type 2 diabetic for more than 10 years, and an occasional Gout sufferer. In the last few months I have developed what I can only describe as a burning sensation in my toes, primarily in the middle toes of my right foot.
I also get pains in my fingers, again primarily in my right hand, but these pains are different to my feet; they are more acute and, at their worst keep me awake at night or require strong painkillers.
Other possibly relevant factors : I am left-handed, overweight, bordering on obese ( dieting ) and on both Metformin & Gliclazide.
I would appreciate any enlightenment and/or advice

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It may be neuropathy, although if you've been taking metformin for a long time, it can cause malabsorption of Vitamin B12 and a deficiency has similar symptoms to neuropathy due to nerve damage. Best to see your GP to discuss - and do ask for a B12 test. Also a good idea to be checked for ferritin and folate at the same time, again because of similar issues.

Gday Indy51 and thanks for the advice. I was taking a B12 supplement up to a few months ago, but stopped after my doctor remarked on my high level following a blood test. I will recommence with it but also see doctor. Thanks again.
