What is a foot pulse check?
The only foot exam I've ever had was one I requested; my doctor ran something like a pen point up the sole of my foot. I can do that at home so I didn't understand why it had to be done at her office.
I've never had or been offered a retinopathy exam.
I realize the US healthcare (non)system doesn't look after its people as well as the NHS does, but my doctor was a good one I thought.
I have a potential problem with poor circulation in my legs, cold feet, no hairs on my legs and some heavy brown pigmentation. I mentioned to my DN that I was getting locked toes, so she checked my pulse in my feet like you do at your wrist but with a little device that amplifies the beat. It sounded fine to my ears, which was good to know. What is a foot pulse check?

I have had an HbA1c test every 6 months and a review every year for the past 6 years. Mind you I always phone up and remind them, it pays to be pro-active.I was diagnosed in late 2016 and have never had 6 monthly reviews since the one in mid 2017, I was seen mid year for a couple of years for foot checks but nothing similar since.
Mind you - I was told that I'd had an annual health check since I was 40, of which I have no recollection and the surgery can't tell me what time of year they were done. Maybe I just forgot about going?
Join the Patient Participation Group at the surgery and make some noise.. I get my checks every 6 months after pointing out that this was the NICE recommendation. So I'm overdue by about a month for my 6-monthly review with a practice nurse. I hadn't bothered ringing till now because of the blood bottle shortage last month. At my last review I was put on gliclazide so no point having a review if we can't see if the new meds are having any effect.
At the time it was said the shortage would likely last till mid-September so when I called to make another routine appointment today I also asked about making a review appt thinking things would be back to normal. Quite the opposite. I was told they're not doing reviews at the moment. Maybe ask again when I have my next B12 appointment. That's in 3 months time!!!
So that's no blood results to measure the success or failure of my new meds, no foot check (as they do that at the same time now, having scrapped the annual podiatrist appointments), no advice, no support, nothing. I mean they're not exactly brilliant anyway since the specialist diabetes nurse retired, and I know the bottle shortage is out of their control, but I feel pretty angry to be just cast adrift!
Is this happening to everyone else too?
I had dire problems with my lower legs and feet swelling up ten days after the first AZ jab earlier this year, and I was - to be honest - thinking about the usual consequences of such things as I watched my toes swell up and turn red. I had two lots of antibiotics and it still was not right - it was complicated by several insect bites on my feet, one became very infected. I decided to take some ginko biloba tablets, as they are a circulation booster - my father's mother's family were midwives, nurses and herbalists. I saw an improvement in days, and all the puffyness has gone, all the infection too - but the infected toe has a rigid joint now, though I tell myself it might not be there at all if not for the ginko. I have stopped taking them daily now that everything seems normal - I do have hair on my lower legs again, it had all gone awol, no dry skin on my heels - even the slightly overcurved nail which sometimes threatens to dig in has flattened out.I have a potential problem with poor circulation in my legs, cold feet, no hairs on my legs and some heavy brown pigmentation. When you contacted the surgery to request your review etc. what did they say?I haven`t had an Annual diabetic review nor blood test nor medication review since March 2019 and am unlikely to hsve one in the near future. After 56 years of trying to manage type1 and at the age of 73 I despair!!!!
