Are recurrent spots in ears linked to diabetes or Metformin?

For the last four years I've had a recurring problem of spots in my outer ear canal. They are probably tiny, but feel like massive boulders and they are so painful, even blocking the hearing a bit.

They go away eventually, but I Googling them today and found some info which suggested they might be linked to diabetes or to Metformin.

Does anyone else get these? Has anyone heard of them being linked in this way?

No, I haven't heard of this, but it's something I used to get whilst I was pre-diabetic and at diagnosis. I haven't had any since my BG's have been under control and I have been taking metformin for a couple of months. So it's possibly true or this may just be coincidence ? Or not? ? ?
