Hello, I am new to this forum and have Type 1.

Can I ask, has anyone got experience of being put on the antipsychotic Aripiprazole (Abilify)? I was put on it Monday and since then my sugars have been all over the place (very high a lot of the time with occasional very lows). I don't know if this is due to the Aripiprazole or if it is just my Type 1 playing up for another reason..

Anyone have this happen to them??

Many thanks!

Leanne

I don't have any experience of taking aripiprozole, but this site says it can cause hyperglycaeimia diabetics should test their blood sugars more frequenltly when taking it - http://www.rxlist.com/abilify-drug/patient-images-side-effects.htm - so it seems your erratic blood sugars may well be correlated to the aripiprozole. Were you given any advice on blood sugar management by the psychiatrist who prescribed it? I believe it's well recognised that anti-psychotics can have an impact on blood sugar management. Do you have a DSN you can discuss blood sugar management with - you might need to consider insulin adjustments to deal with the impact of the drug, it would be good to the views of a HCP on that.
