I have a nasty cough with phelgm into the bargain.

Bought some cough medicine over the counter in a supermarket. Got home and it was'nt until I had opened it (packet and bottle) that I saw the usual piece of paper INSIDE with the blah blah telling me it's not suitable for diabetics!

Why don't they say so on the OUTSIDE of the blimmin thing so you can decide before you buy it?

Crafty or what?

There, that's me weekly rant off me chest........

You found out the hard way why we always tell Members to ASK the Pharmacist and tell him/her what conditions/medications etc you are on so that they can then dispense the CORRECT medications peculiar to your circumstances when buying OTC Meds.

Better luck next time. In any case why not take it back and explain. Get it changed to the right stuff.

Usually they are full of sugar DD, as Ken suggests its always best to speak with the pharmacist first.

Thank you Cugila and Noblehead.

Whilst I totally agree with your suggestions, in my case, there's no actual pharmacy thus no pharmacist to ask in this particular supermarket. I did think about returning it but thought it would have been a bit difficult because I had already thrown away the receipt and also had already opened the bottle and was actually sipping away whilst casually reading this info sheet which is when I saw this bit about it being no-go for diabetics. Next time I'll ask at a real pharmacy before buying!

There is a herbal remedy called Ivy Thyme I know Bioforce do it but probably other ones are available .It works really well and has no sugar.

I always buy over-the-counter suff from the pharmacy and ask them. However, some medicines are supposedly unsuitable for diabetics, which are ok if you have good control. It's a minefield!
